Charge Control Actuator Question
I preformed the Charge Control Actuator test from www.autosportracetech.com. With engine idling the actuator rod is pulled in, but when I stop my engine the rod immediately releases and comes out of chamber B on the actuator. In the write-up on www.autosportracetech.com it states that you have to remove the hose from chamber A then the rod should come out.
So why is it that as soon as I stop my engine the rod releases? Is my actuator screwed or could it be a vacuum or check valve problem?
I am having secondary boost issues of either very low boost 2-4psi or no boost at all, and was wondering if this could be the problem.

Take that hose off, and push the rod it. Plug the nipple with your finger and let go of the rod. If the rod moves back out and makes a leaking sound, the actuator is bad. (it will move a little, but stop if the actuator is good).
I suspect you have a loose line or bad check valve, because the vacuum from the manifold at the moment is what's in the system. There is no 'stored' vacuum. Inspection of the lines and components will be the order of the day. Fixing this is certainly necessary to solving your secondary boost problem.
Try going to Autozone and borrowing their vacuum pump kit. (Personally, I recommend buying yourself a Mityvac Silverline Plus kit, since the vacuum-only pump is inconvient to test pressure with, but for this particular issue I think you'll only need vacuum). You can hook this directly up to the system or actuator and apply vacuum. Remove that line from the CCA, hook up the vacuum pump there, and pump vacuum on the system. You should hear the leak since the engine isn't running.
As well, you can perform the FSM test on the actuator. See http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-...leshooting.htm for details, as well as the Factory service manual on page F-87. My cheat sheet for navigating the FSM is linked below.

If you buy a pump, buy only the one I'm talking about - model 4050. It doesn't cost much more than the lesser kits, and it works far better.
If you're borrowing/renting, get what you can get.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
yep you are going to need the Mighty Vac silverline kit. I had a bad CCA and I was only getting 4-5lbs max. I also had a y-pipe coupler tear, and 4 bad solenoids. You should order you some Dale Clark viton check valves for $20.00, they are the ****. Replace them while you are in there. Check the vacuum chamber for proper operation. Good luck. I was in your shoes two weeks ago. I did fix the problem, so hope you do too. Dave is the right guy to help with this.

There is no Autozone here, there are Partsouce, which most likely the Canadian version of Autozone. I will check around to see who sells the mityvac 4050 model. Thanks.
