Changing the stock rear spoiler !!!!!

Hi all,,,
Have got the chance of getting hold of one of the large rear spoilers for my red rex off a smashed car ( jeeezzz,,, what a smash ) It looks like the ones off the type r models i have seen around.
Its the same coulour as mine so wont need any spraying or anything,,,, question is ?????? will it fit ???
Much though i like the look of them , and have been after one for a while,, i am not going to bother with it, if fitting it is not going to line up with the original holes from the stock spoiler. I dont want to start messing around drilling holes etc,,,, or even worse,, leaving behind exposed holes from the stock one,,,

Any advice would be really helpfull ,,,,

The holes are not the same. You will have to plug up a couple of the originals and drill some new ones.

Jack did you ever get a code for the MB? I was gonna paint that wing up for you, hopefully I can send everything back at once if your still sending your handles for that special treatment!

Hi Jason,
Kinda been busy and forgot all about it. I went and looked at the "code" on the partial I had left from the hatch paint and it say's " Mazda MB" so near as I can tell it's just MB. Unless I find out any different that should get-er-done. Jack

Thanks for the info,,,,and the thread hijack !!!

Any hows,,,,,is it a difficult job to do ?? i mean drilling and all that.
Would rather take the drill to my missus than the bodywork on my rex,,, if ya know what i mean.
How do you plug the holes that have been exposed, and is there a set way of fitting this spoiler ??? Not done anything like this before, and dont want to ***** it up if i can help it,,, any advice

When I put an R-1 spoiler on my touring I made a cardboard template for the rear hatch, I then took and placed screw/bolts in the wing and set it up on the cardboard (which is taped in place on the rear hatch) and when the spoiler was exactly where it was supposed to be i placed firm pressure on the wing in the areas of the screws and this marked the card board. I then used an auto punch and where the center of the screws were on the cardboard I centered the auto punch (light setting) and transferred the marks to the hatch. Very simple process and took all of an hour to layout and drill. I used tape on the paint to avoid marring the paint and causing it to chip.

Hi there,,, thanks for that info,,,, doesnt sound that difficult after all,,,, mind you,, what about the holes left behind from the stock spoiler ???
What do i do with them ????
Am gonna see if i can afford the whole hatch with the spoiler attached already, save messing around,,but i dont think the guy will let it go for the price i have in mind, so it looks like i will be getting the spoiler only,,,,,

Just a thought here but would he be willing to swap hatchs with you plus alittle for the difference in wings ? ? ? After all he could still sell your wing and hatch.

Not sure to be honest,,,, the only gen 3s i have seen this spoiler on in the uk, are type r models. Its the big tall wing, as opposed to the small low one. Has big thick sides to it, that come up almost to the rear glass.
You can see some pics of the smashed car here,,,,,,
