Ok, so I did a search for "Castrol Syntec Blend" and I didn't see anything for the FD. I saw plenty on Castrol Syntec but none for the Blend formula. The guy I bought the car from said he has been running Castrol 10w30, using Bosch filters and everytime he filled up the tank with gas he added about 2 to 3 ounces of Yama Lube 2-cycle oil to the tank. He said that now that Castrol has come out with the Syntec Blend, I could use that and eliminate the 2-cycle oil use. A buddy of mine that use to own a FC told me this would fine too. Mine is a 93 with 27,500 miles. What are your thoughts on this? -By the way it's 1:40am and I have to be at work 9am....ever since I bought this car I'm so addicted to it and this forum that I loose about 2hours of sleep every night!

Pretty much any oil (I wouldn't run a 5W-30) will work and nearly everyone has their own thing/opinion regarding oil and premixing, so the information you get is going to be mixed. I personally wouldn't run a blended oil but I don't think you'll have any issues with it whether you premix or not.

Yea, I read a lot of oil post in the archives and there doesn't seem to be one "all mighty" agreeing opinion on oil or filters (except don't use FRAM). Anyway, if I don't use the Syntec Blend would you say just use the regular syntec and keep adding the 2-cycle oil to each fill up of gas? I'm really trying to eliminate that part bbut I don't want to change things to drastically from what has always been done to the car.

right on......I've presonally run synthetic and non-synthetic without any noticable differences. As of the past two years since having the motor rebuilt, I've run dino 10W-40 in spring/fall and VR1 20W-50 in the summer up here in Michigan. I also premixed this past summer and I can't say I noticed anything. So either way I think you'll be fine.

Castrol is not my favorite but shes as good as any other oil honestly. Yamalube is one of the priciest and highest quality 2 stroke oils available. It works really well with out OMP system as yamaha runs a very similar sytem on their larger 2 stroke engines.

IMO, general forum consensus is that the most important thing about oil is to change it often (~2.5 to 3k) and use a quality filter. Synthetic/non-synthetic debate has been discussed at length and that alone could draw flame heat. These engines usually fail from other problems unrelated to oil.
If your mostly stock with a working OMP, the pre-mix may be overkill in my opinion.
Have fun at Deal's Gap, it looks like fun. Wish it was closer for me.

I wouldn't waste money on a blend...either spend less and run mineral oil or spend more and run a true synthetic.

Pre-mixing is pointless, feel free to stop if you don't want to do it anymore. I've never seen a hint of evidence that pre-mixing leads to longer motor life. And with the PFC+datalogit, you can even increase the oiling rate of the OMP if you want (which I did).

SgtBlue- yea, I thought about the potential flamming that this thread could've brought but I just hadn't seen that many people discuss the "Blend" formula. I was mostly just trying to get opinions about it along with the 2-cycle oil issue. Thanks for all ya'lls help. -brad
