Changing differential fluid . . . looking for a tool.

Hi, i'm changing my diff fluid for the first time. I'm looking for a tool to make my life easier.

Does anyone know where to find the tool that looks like a big syringe with a flexible hose? Is there a specific name? Thanks- Clayton T.

sure, a little hand pump. Pepboys or autozone or similar should have one.

I used a silicone hose from the fish tank store (used for filter pumps) and then a funnel and routed out the wheel and then poured in a quart and 1/2 I think it was. Cost less the $5 but the pump sounds less messy.

The trick to using a funnel or pump is to have the oil relatively warm. Keep it a few feet from your woodstove, not in your garage or else it won't pour worth a damn.

I used the clear tubing, but make sure it will fit both in the fill hole and also the funnel at the other end. Every time it looked to me like it would fit it didn't.

That 6$ pump is AWESOME. You suck the fluid out of the bottle, and it injects it very quickly. If you're careful it won't be messy.

I did the hose thing before. The problem was that it was cold outside. Took forever LOL.

Real, hardcore differential gear oil smells WORSE than tranny fluid. More phosphorus, more sulfur, more nasty stinkin EP additives.

Whats everyone running 75w-90? Its never gets below 30F here so I'll probably use Mobile 1 synthetic 80w-90 for both the transmission and the diff.

I used Neo fluid. I forget the weights. I had to drive pretty far to find a local shop that carried Neo. Cool shop though.

Agreed. My garage stunk for a week. You might be tempted to fill it from above through the shifter hole, but I wouldn't.
And remember there are two drain holes, but just one fill hole for the transmission.

Diff - 1.38 US qts
Tranny - 2.60 US qts
SAE75W-90 for both......I'm using royal purple, good stuff. You kind find it at Pepboys for about $11 per qt.
