Chafing: CHECK YOUR FRONT HARNESS!

I was installing my gauges this week and found some bad chafing from my tire THROUGH the liner and THROUGH the convoluted tubing. Glad I found this when I did. Any longer and I would have had some ugly gremlins. My car is bone stock with 64k.

I'm willing to bet if this was affecting my car, it's probably affecting others. This is in the drivers side wheel well. I re wrapped it and tucked it up and away. You can easily secure it with zip ties.

Matt

with a stock car, strut tops go bad, and let the wheel hit the liner. you can actually see yours is bad in the pic. lowering the car too much does this too. its a good idea to move the harness over the lip in the sheet metal

What's the best way to get access to ziptie it out of the way?

There was a slot that I was able to fit a zip tie through. If you jack the car up, take the wheel off and pull the liner, you'll see it I promise.

Worn shocks, springs, and upper mounts are common culprits as well as lowering the car too far or running an improper wheel/tire size combo. I can't count anymore the number of cars I've had come in with electrical problems that rubbed through. Most often its the "stanced" crowd that has problems. The front harness controls a whole lot on the car so good thing you found it before it got worse. You can zip tie it up further as suggested and I would also replace your fender liner and suspension.

not to mention the issues it can cause, such as a dead map sensor signal and **** poort drivability. in some rare cases a fried ECU.

this is how i did my front harness under the fenders.

looking along the frame rail, you will see little slits that look like they were made for zip ties. i pulled the harness up and secured it that way. as j9fd3s mentioned, i put it above the lip on the frame. this is also how i routed my power wire for my battery relocation.

With my car, the wheel rubs the front area of the liner (behind the headlamp). Check that area also.
