yup! rhd! england is a rubbish place to own an fd when you want cf parts!

 

sonix7 can make it from core parts but i heard that the mazdaspeed one is a new set! some door trim on mine is broken so is no good as a core!

I can source it. I've actually got an order pending for a set at the moment. There are two kits - one for the center console, middle section (where the AC is) and the dials section. Here's a pic of that;

the part price for that is 57,750yen.

The second set is a single piece - for the drivers' door (the panel where the window controls are). The price for that is (for some reason) 46,200yen.

These parts cannot be used with version I cars (91- aug 93).

 

...oh, and they aren't CF - they are just a CF-like design. To use mazdaspeed's term: 'CF look' panels.

 

I can fix broken pieces and then laminate them. I can do a lot to fix broken or messed up trim. I have restored a couple of pieces that were almost unsalvagable. therefore making them stronger and also repairing any damage. The problem is my man is in the UK, the shipping is rediculous. I mean not even worth it. I wish there was something I could do, I can duplicate the mazdaspeed stuff for a fraction of the cost. I have not seen a Mazdaspeed dash piece in person, but I bet you they are one layer of CF in the injection mold and plastic reinforced. That would be almost indentical as to what I do. I have a JDM plain weave speedo going up for sale within the next week. You can see for yourself if I got the Mazdaspeed look or not.

 

I am sorry but you don't want the CF "look" panels. They make CF "look" ABS plastic and that is probably what they are using. It does not mimick the real 3D effect that any CF weave has. It simulates the checker board effect. I think it looks cheaper than anything out there. The fabric I use when laminated provides a deep 3D asthetic look, that cannot be duplicated with anything but CF. People in the states I can help out or anyone that is willing to deal with me on the shipping. I have to have RHD core pieces for the obvious reasons. I can do them just the same. I am doing specialty pieces as we speak, here is a teaser of a very rare speedo I am doing. Enjoy! BTW, if anyone wants to know this is a Carbon/Kevlar hybrid fabric in a 2 twill weave -color yellow.

shipping cost for the mazdaspeed panels to UK would be minimal.

The question of CF vs mazdaspeed 'CF' is a bit of a moot point, really - it's purely question of aesthetics - as the only benefit the CF provides is weight - and in this case, well... the gains are extremely minimal, at best.

I personally think that real CF is a bit gaudy in this utilisation. That said, I also have issues with paying those sorts of $$$ for fake CF.

do you know where I can source out those white face dials for my 2000 model FD? I know MAzdaspeed have the white with red ilumination but its for the older face with the oil gauge. I want the one with boost and the 6pm needle rev face model.

What do you think of the CF stick on ones from Ebay? There an Australian distrubutor here for $270AUD.

 

Those are factory standard dials (version VI).

I'd _assume_ that swapping out a version V dial set for a version VI would be a direct 'bolt-in' swap. Unfortunately you have to buy the whole set - dials, digital read out, cluster. You'd lose your current km reading - which doesn't look good when it's time to sell on.

I've never seen the ebay ones, so I can't comment. In my experience, 5-10% of ebay gear is wonderful and cheap. The rest is garbage, scams, etc - so I'd take a good look on here and see if you can find some reviews or feedback.

Me That's the Spirit R cluster you're referring to.

Unbeknownst to most, Mazda Japan actually regulates the purchase and sale of Spirit R parts, to the point that 1) You must prove you're a Spirit R owner (there's a tag or plate give to the owners), 2) You must prove your original part was damaged. So you can't just buy extra parts. Guess they're trying to maintain exclusivity of the Spirit R.

So what that means is, ANY Spirit R part that gets sold fetches TOP dollar. I've seen the OWNER'S MANUAL (nothing else...just the books) go for $175 at the cheapest, to just under $400. I won't tell ya how much the rest of the parts go for

Oh and yea, I have a Spirit R cluster I'll be putting up for sale soon I hope you have a mortgage though, cuz this **** was EXXXPENSIVE!

You get what you pay for. Your car is soo freakin nice, that in my humble opinion, the last thing you should do is buy some cheap crappy parts. I don't think you should spend a grand or so on a Spirit R cluster, either. You already have Mazdaspeed parts on your FD; I'd get the Mazdaspeed cluster (which I also have LOL).

EDIT: DaiOni, you mean that Series 6 FDs came w/ white faced clusters, identical to the Spirit R cluster, but just not w/ the Spirit R emblem?? Man...I'm learning a lot from you as of late

 

I've never looked into the alleged spirit-r exclusivity deal and how it affects buying parts - but I have seen a couple of FDs (including a version I!) that have been totally converted to spirit-r spec. Totally converted - they even used the updated ABS and brake balance system. So they must have got the parts somewhere. I'll look into this - as I'm curious now.

Ramy: not series 6 (anyway, let's not use that australian terminology in this context - it can get really confusing). Actually, I'll refer to it quickly - in case dcups doesn't know what his car is - the version V is the first half of series 8, and the version VI is the second half. The version VI cars had white face dials. Spirit-r FDs has the special edition (branded) white face dials. You'll note that that isn't the case with the pic I posted - as that car is (iirc), a type RS.

to digress slightly - here's a bit of trivia I recently learned - there is a version 4.5 (that doesn't quite work in roman numerals....) - which is cars which were version IV after the switch from the 'efini' branding, to 'mazda' (in 98).

 

...I've been working on a website to include all this data (to superceed the incomplete NZ reference we use) - but I've just not been able to find the time to get it all together. One day...

 

My guess is from parted out cars, junked cars, or parts for sale. I heard the Spirit-R exclusivity bit directly from a Spirit R owner's mouth. He didn't know of it until he went to get some parts himself!

2) Didja know that some late FC's had the same carbon fiber RZ Recaro seats that came in the FDs?!

I didn't know about the FCs.

Yes - first cars were stamped october 91 - which is why the manuals list them as such (yet no one ever seems to pay attention to that).

It's the same as '99-spec' - started dec 98. It's in print - on the mazda parts book - yet once people call it something else, and the mistakes perpetuate... guess it's the same as all JDM FDs being 'efini'...

 

don't worry about me - I only do parts for fun (and to lower the cost % on my own parts) - I'm not bothered if people use me or not - but I like to help out when I can.

 

Neither did I until very recently But I'll tell ya this...that explains why I've gotten so many sets of RZ seats w/ FC rails!! It was like a HUGE lightbulb came on when I found this out haha

Oh yeh! I noticed my mates 2001 series 8 and he has the same white dials as the spirit R BUT without the Spirit R Logo as the one that Ramy PM'd me. How's that? So there 2 types of white faced dials/cluster whatever but one with the spirit R logo?......Also, my whole interior lighting is green and my mates one lights up as red......guess thats how you can tell? I also checked out my Vin plate and it says 01/00 for Jan'2000.

Does that mean the version VI white face dials can be sourced out cheaper than the spirit R ones?
