Centerforce Dual Friction clutch.......
I've searched and found that most of the people that have/had this clutch while also had problems with it might not have properly broke it in. I found out last weekend I need to replace my clutch and was recommended by an FD friend to get this clutch.
My question is where is the best place to get this clutch?
And what is the proper break-in for this clutch?
Someone also said that they had a talk with Racing Beat claiming that a new Mazda clutch is able to withstand up to 400hp. I'm not all that sure about that, but I won't be getting that clutch just to later on finding out that it'll slip because I went single.
Thanks.

The CFDF is a nice clutch for a stock to moderately modified car. The engagement is very smooth and the pedal effort is stock-like. To break it in, you just have to drive slow (no hard launches) for about 500 miles of city driving.
If you are going to be running big power with a single turbo, or plan to drag race, the CFDF is probably not the best choice. The ACT clutches have more pedal effort, but they also seem to hold better from the reports I have heard.

The CFDF seems to have a bad reputation among drag racers. I have dragged my car just once with the clutch and it worked fine, but repeated launches are said to kill it. If you want to drag race, I would get something else.
Something from ACT would probably be better, but it will give a stiffer pedal. I don't think any organic clutch lining will give you a bulletproof clutch for drag racing, but the ACT units seem to have a better reputation for drag strip use. Another option is the stock disc with a heavier pressure plate from Racing Beat. I am not sure how that would compare to a CFDF, though.

The ACT is a little stiffer, although not that much. Very everyday driveable. I had a centerforce on my last car, and loved it. I have a ACT on my 7 and it's A LOT better than stock. I hear that because the 7 is such a small car, that the Centerforce that is used is not a true Centerforce. That's the reason I didn't go with them. Anyone else heard that?
I have the Bonez street performance clutch from rx7.com and it holds up very well to repeated hard launches during autocrosses. I replaced my disc for the hell of it when my motor went; it had approx 25K miles and about 150 hard launches on it. My eyeballs say it was only 25% worn; I couldn't believe it as I city drive it as well. Nice soft pedal and great lock up, but to my understanding not recommended for big, big power.

Thanks for the replies......
I hear that the CFDF is around $350 while most of the ACT ones are around $500?
I would like to know where is the best place to get the CFDF clutch from, would anyone happen to know?
Thanks.

you guys that say the ACT clutch is too much pedel effort are PANSIES!!!
Seriously though...in comparison to other sports cars the rx7 clutch engages like a honda, the M3's stock clutch is probably twice as stiff as an ACT on an rx7. Trust me, I'm a valet!
ohh, I have the ACT S/S

Jim, you are totally correct. I was actually just checking this out a few months ago. The problem is, that the bell housing is just too small, so centerforce couldn't place its typical Centrifugal style clutch in there.
Its kind of too bad, cause thats the thing I really liked about the CFDF clutch. I too have that on my other car and I completely love it. Not too much pedal effort, but it holds a lot better at higher RPM (where your higher torque and power numbers are) due to the centrifugal design. Its just too bad that they couldn't fit that into the FD.

I guess I'm gonna get the ACT clutch when I rebuild my engine and tranny. It comes highly recommended.

I'll second DamonB's compliments on the Bonez clutch. It has great pedal feel, and mine has held up well. Rotary Performance claims that it is good for up to 450HP.
If you need more clutch than that, they also sell the Bonez Racing Clutch, but it is not recommended for daily driven cars.
Good luck!

I think they are all in the same ballpark price-wise. If you find the CFDF for $350, buy 1000 of them and sell them for $500 like everyone else.
I read the Bonez description on rx7.com after I posted, and that sounds like it might be a good choice, too.
