center speaker Gauge installation

Just wanted a 2nd pair of ears/eyes please

basically I'm installing 4 defi BF's in a center speaker pod this weekend..

just wanted to bounce my procedure off you guys..

1)install the gauges in the pod.. daisy chain them together.. droppin one wire out..

2)remove the radio and storage Din from center console..and remove speaker cover and speaker itself

3)route sensors through engine bay

4)remove drivers side Fender, find the hole that goes into the chassis and route sensors

5) drill hole in back of Din and mount Defi control unit

6)feed sensor wires up and under dash to center console and into back of Din pocket to the control unit..

7) tap Power/ground/dimming wires from the headunit's harness

8)stick gauges on top plug the gauge wire into back of control unit

10)re-assemble radio and Din pocket

I'm hoping I don't have to remove the center console stuff.. plastic is brittle as is.

What do you guys think? does it sound about right? any suggestions to improve install or tips?

thanks

there are alot of ways to route wires throughout the car, be creative

you shouldn't have to remove the dash, use fish tape

make sure you take pictures and tell us all how you did it.

also, where did you get the 4 gauge mount?

One common wire for power, another for ground and another for dimmer/illumination is what you'll probably need to do. I ran those down to the driver's side and used an inline fuse to the fuse box. I did that by taping the wires to a wire hanger and either pushing it up or pushing it down into the driver's foot area. can't remember if I pushed up or down....

Don't need to remove the radio or DIN from center console. You can't readily get to the speaker cover from there. Nor can you easily route wires through there.

Why remove the fender? If you remove the fender liner, you'll see a pass through where you can feed wires or feed through the main wiring loom if you are able to. Search on a thread from moconnor as he posted a pic of the area and feeding sensor wires through there.

I fed those up from the passenger side using a wire hanger.

spent all day installing the gauges today..

i ended up puting the defi control unit on top of the Steering column instead of the DIN pocket...

routed the wires through the hole near the clutch pedal through the fender hole..

Coat hanger made the speaker pod gauge install much easier Thanks for the suggestion

plus the Daisy chain and only having to run 1 wire for 4 gauges made life wonderful...

just an FYI for everyone... the stupid pedestal sard pedestal isn't compatible with the Defi sensor...

I had to make some modifications to it, inorder to use it..

the greddy sports filter made life easier for install tho..

I just have to install the EGT probe now..

Thanks for the help guys

I use long plastic cable ties (18"/24") for feeding wires. Flexible and scratch resistant.

i just did the same install on my (RHD) car. i bought the RHD tripower gauge pod to use until i can get my hands on something better. i dont remember if i asked about the 60mm pod or not, but i got a 52. i had to dremel it out to make the gauges fit.

i tapped the water temp into the line going to the throttle body.
i use the oil filter pedestal to add the oil temp gauge sensor.

i ran all the wires, loomed/zip tied and hidden through the fender hole underneath the fender liner.

i tapped the aux and power from the radio harness.. since i dont have a dimmer switch, i tapped that off and didnt use it. i grounded the wires to a bolt underneath the kneepad on the left side of the drivers seat.

powered it up and worked like a charm.. the defi water temp reads between 2 and 4 degrees Celsius colder than the power fc, but ive researched and found that it is no problem.

i need to get a triple or quad pod so that i can install a boost and oil pressure gauge.
