There's a screw that holds the assembly onto a plate. Unscrew the thing, and you'll find a plate nderneath with one or two screws (can't remember)

Tighten those screws first, then reassemble the mirror to the plate.

I spent about 3 months trying to tighten the first screw in vain before i said F'it and pulled it apart, just to realize how dumb i was.

Mine came loose and actually fell off while driving.
I just tightened the screws on that metal plate thing and stuck the mirror back on.

My rear view became loose at the gimbal itself. The mount was solid but in the summer time the mirror wouldn't hold adjustment and I had to replace it.

When my was loose, the joint was broken so I gotta get a new one, but for emergency case I stuffed in some tissue to make it tight.

DamonB - did you try anything else to tighten it up before just replacing it? Mine is loose too when it gets hot. It doesn't bother me to just occasionally readjust it on the street but the track is another story. I've looked at a few websites for larger "racing" rear view mirrors but most seem to just clip onto the existing mirror, which wouldn't solve the problem.

I tried to take the gimbal apart and somehow tighten or wedge it but I couldn't get the glass to pop out of the mirror to allow access. I was afraid I was going to break the glass anyway so I ended up just buying another mirror from a wrecked car.
