Center channel gauge location ease of install??

Hello everybody... I am having a hard time deciding whether to place my additional gauges in a din panel over stereo, or get a center channel pod... I have my boost gauge in a steering column pod, but want to add a wideband, water temp and oil press gauge next....

How hard it it to run wires/lines up to the center channel? I think in the long run I would prefer the center channel location, but I hate spending hours fishing lines through and possibly damaging other wiring....

Thanks.

It's not that bad. There's more room to get behind the center stack and up to that hole that you may realize. Secondly, the easiest thing do is drop a line from the spot to behind the dash and use that as a fish wire. It will be much easier to tape everything to that and pull it up through the dash that way.

Ok, so it's not too bad then... Now I guess I've just got to try and get a flyrx7 center pod... If not then I guess settle for the prosport.

Thanks

I literally just did this two days ago for my oil pressure gauge.

It was not difficult at all. I used a length of coat hanger and fed it through the hole and after a bit of jiggling it came out near my glove box. I then fished the wires back up to the pod.

15 minutes or so, not including the soldering time.

Also, having gauges on top of the dash keeps them in easy view. By the stereo is out of your view and you just don't see them as easily without taking your eyes from the road.

It's not *easy* to get the wires up there, but it isn't bad at all. Best part is the install looks super clean.

Exactly, looks very clean in this location. Just killed a cheap-*** looking single a-pillar pod and moved boost along with water temp and oil pressure to a triple prosport pod for the center speaker. Looks very clean and OEM-ish

Will add a wide-band in the future and kick the boost gauge to a steering column pod but right now I am loving the uncluttered look.

I have my boost, oil temp, and wideband in the center location. First I ran a chase string from the top. Then I pulled the wires from below with them wrapped to the chase string. It was very easy and took maybe 30 minutes. The only way it could have been easier was to pull the gauge cluster out but I think looking back it would not have been worthwhile.

A bunch of gauges on top of your dash NEVER looks "oemish". Do you want your car to look stock, or like a race car? Gauges in either location are functional.

My boost & oil temp guage are Autometer ES series gauges. They were about the closest to the oem look that I could find. The wideband is PLX, I don't think you'll find any wideband that looks close to OEM.

Ok thanks for the input... That's exactly what I'm shooting for is a nice subtle oem look as much as poss.....

I've run auto meters in most of my cars. Some people seem to bash them so I was thinking about trying something else. You cant beat there aesthetic options and availability though. I'll check out those es series...

Thanks.

VDO vision series are so close to OEM its scary -- I went with boost, electric water temp and electric oil pressure.

I use an old oil dip stick to send the wire through from the bottom, I just taped all the wire onto the dip stick and poke my way through.

I have the boost on a steering column, water temp/oil temp/oil pressure on the speaker pod. I need to add a WB so I might move the oil pressure down to the din where the boost controller will go.

I'll check those out.. I'm going to do a wideband, water temp, and oil temp.
Seems like their gauges didn't come with senders though....? I want to get gauges that come with everything...

I had these Autometer CF gauge on the turbo MX-6 before, just transferred them over when I turn the 6 back to stock, I'll probably stick with these till I find some good deal on some nicer gauges.

Sorry chewie, I am going to have to disagree with you. I cant think of a single car that has oem gauges in that location. I'm not saying it looks bad, but it certainly doesn't look stock

Subies too.

The 3000 GTs kinda sorta had them, but were more integrated into the center console than on top of the dash.

Maybe not OEM, but definitely the best place in a 3rd gen RX-7 to put a gauge pod. Up the A-pillar is out of the question for me, and near the stereo is too far out of the driver's line of sight while driving. The Amemiya pod is cool, but it only holds one gauge.

I have a flypod with two gauges and don't miss my paper center channel speaker at ALL.
