CEL : CODE 28 Solenoid valve - EGR
CEL : CODE 28 Solenoid valve - EGR
Sup Fellas,
I just got a used 93 FD ( my second FD after almost 8 yrs) over the weekend from this site and on the way home, low and behold, the CEL goes on. I check the code and it's showing code 28. I don't feel anything wrong with the car other than the 3K hesitation. I am in California so I guess I have and EGR. I just wanted to know your guys' input. I did a search on Code 28 and nothing came up and tried reading up on EGR's but I'm not sure what to do from this point on. Is this a really big concern?
Any help would be appreciated.

That's the code for the solenoid itself. Check the vacuum diagram to see which solenoid is for the EGR:
http://www.fd3s.net/vacuum_hose_replacement.html
You probably have one of the following problems:
* Solenoid has failed and needs to be replaced
* Harness connector to the solenoid is not properly attached
* Short in the wiring harness to that connector for the solenoid
Usually as an initial test, you can swap a known good solenoid for the one throwing the code to see if the code goes away. If it does, that points directly at a faulty solenoid. If the code doesn't go away with the known good solenoid, then you have a wiring issue.
