cat removal
cat removal
Anyone running a straight pipe after the downpipe with no catalytic converter? I'm in Tennessee with no emissions testing. Mostly stock fd with all emissions onboard.
Pros and cons?
I've searched the faq and archives and can't seem to find any answers.

The car will be louder and the exhaust will smell like a mixture of sewer gas and one of those airline pillows.
Depending on what cat back you have, there is some risk of boost creep. From the FAQ definitions.... Boost Creep - A steady increase in maximum boost, usually at higher rpm. Creep is caused by the exhaust flowing more than the wastegate and turbo can control. The (only) solution is to either restrict overall flow or enlarge the wastegate opening. Installation of a cat-less midpipe often cause boost creep.
^Note that a boost controller will NOT control creep.

Unless the cat is clogged, I recommend leaving it on a mostly stock car. If its failing replace it with a high flow. Midpipe on a twin turbo car often leads to boost creep unless you want to pull the turbos and port the wastegate.
