Carbon Fiber Rear Hatch at RX7 Store
Anybody purchase this yet? If so, how much was the total weight savings WITH the lexan? It has to be more than 60 lbs.

yeah it does... but on a rear window, what's really gonna scratch it? i wouldn't recommend it for a front windshield unless your just doing autox or something cause if you're driving down the highway and some dump truck cuts you off... time for a new window

That is a much better price than I've seen the hatch replacements before. C-West makes one that I've seen for around $1500 and I saw another for about $1100.
I'd like to see it with more pictures, specifically down to how it latches and some underside shots.
As far as lexan vs. glass. How about setting it up so you could swap between the two with a high strength rubber window seal and some edge clamps? Throw the lexan in for your autox/track days and use the glass for driving around town. Without seeing the hatch in person it'd be a swag to say you could setup something like that though.

Lexan does scratch easy, but we use it in many signs we produce. A scratch can be buffed or sanded out of it quite easily and then you basically polish the lexan so it's as clear as glass again. For anyone that's interested I can write out the whole process.

3M has a pretty thick clear adhesive film which you sometimes find on new cars of the production line or on the inside of your doors where the rubbers hit the paint.
It's rather expensive but if you're with 2-3 persons you could slightlywarm it up and put it over the Lexan. it's 100% transparant and protects very good.
It's also used on front bumpers for protection from grind and stuff

I didn't wanna start another thread, seeing there are already a couple on this topic...but I have a few questions about these CF rear hatches that I haven't found the answer to:
1- Obviously is fitment. Does it vary much between the diff ones? Eg, how's fitment w/ the one Jason/RX7Store sells?
2- Tim mentioned that the diff between the lexan glass and the stock glass is 13 lbs. What's the weight difference between the CF hatch itself, and the stock hatch?
3- I've heard there are water seal issues w/ the lexan...that it'll almost always eventually leak water in...this true?
4- I also heard that since the CF hatch + lexan glass is so light, the thing rattles like crazy when driving around town...
5- In addition, I heard you gotta find diff shocks, cuz the stock ones are too strong for the CF hatch. Yes?
6- Any way to add the defrost lines onto the lexan, and if so, about how much would it run? Cuz a fogged up rear windshield is a real issue...
Ummm...I think that's about all (for now) lol. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

What he said. The weight savings would be worth the upkeep for most.
Polish once or twice a year....

alberto_mg, I take it you think it's a waste of money because it's a lot of dough for minimal weight reduction? (I have yet to see the diff in weight of the diff hatches to see just how much weight we're talking about...)
