Wondering if you guys could post pictures of carbon fiber body parts for our FD's. I know that Extreme Dimensions sells CF stuff, other then them...who else do we have for this kind of stuff?

(Should state i'm looking for; front bumpers, rear bumpers, side skirts, front fenders, rear fenders. I already know where to get CF hoods, wings, dash kits, door handles and exhaust shields)

dont know the brand names but I have seen carbon fiber hood, rear hatch, front fenders, heard that some one makes cf doors.

 

Ah, i do remember the CF hatch too...we had a group buy, i'll have to look that up.

The doors as far as i can remember were for the inside panel, and not the door itself.

 

Heh, how about the whole car in CF? These have been wrapped I believe though with MS parts and front bumper I forgot who made.

Try importfan.com. I did'nt get this bumper from them. Won't recommend place I got this one from. The carbon finish is good but there are some fitment issues that I have to rectify.

That whole CF car is SICK...just not the kit i'd be looking into.

 

I believe Carbon Creations is the company with all the FD accessories (hatch, bumpers, sideskirts, etc... possibly doors)

 

Yeah, i guess when i said Extreme Dimensions that was Carbon Creations...i know their CF FD as the Extreme Dimensions car.

mazdamotorsports sells the entire body for the FD in Fiberglass and carbon fiber. The complete CF kit is about 15 large though.

 

Mike, I would *strongly* advise AGAINST going w/ CF body panels. Fitment isn't exactly spot on, and you can't exactly manipulate it to fit either. It's a hassle, looks like a$$ cuz of the poor fitment, and isn't much lighter (if at all) than regular fiberglass bodyparts.

Oh gotcha. In that case, the easy answer is, almost everything is available in CF. And even some stuff that would surprise you. The Australian Bathurst FD extensively used CF. Carbonman (on the forum) is actually the guy who made those CF pieces for Mazda... he makes all sorts of CF pieces for race teams, including reinforced doors, intakes, piping, wheels, etc.

 

These pictures don't do that car justice. I have seen that car many times (that shop in the backround is philly's local rotary shop, www.jprimports.com) and the body work is flawless. I'm not big on crazy body kits, but this car just looks mean. Every panel/bumper on it is in carbon fiber.

On the other hand, you will pay astronomical prices to get that done, and it offers no benefit except looks? I could see buying a kit made of CF, but no wrapping of the body panels. Call Carbon Creations!! they specialize in making these kits. If anyone comes on here and tells me that wrapping body panels with CF is the way to go, has no idea what the hell they are spewing. To each his own, but think twice, and if your going to spend that much on custom fabrication. Get a hold of CarbonMan and see if he can get you going. He is the true master!! Unless you are going for a land speed record, I would just stick with the regular body panels. You could seriously waste a ton of money on this and it look terrible. Plus where are you gonna get that much fabric? Steal it from the Gov. or Boeing. Carbon Fiber is unavailable worldwide. So don't let people feed you misinformation in order to get your money. Do some research into exactly what you want and get it done. Good luck.

 

It's far from flawless. And the doors are not all carbon fiber. Just the outside. That car is at JPR more than mine is. And my car practicly lives there.

 

So maybe you can help us figure out who's car this ACTUALLY is? I thought Jon was the one that did that? He showed me pics of a red FD that was supposedly his? I don't know what to believe, can you blame me? The owner of the CF car has to be on here, and hopefully can straighten this out for everyone. I think it looks bad also. The fittment is absolutely terrible, especially for stock panels laminated with CF. I commend the work done on there, its not easy. But why? is what I don't get. Somebody obviously had a **** load of dinero to burn. Like I said, to each its own. I love CF, I do this everyday. I would never do that to my FD. Period.

 

for people looking for carbon fiber doors.... if you have a side impact colition (20mph+) you will be dead.

 

i know this because my dad is a biodynamics engineer and he tests that stuff.

 

Another good reason not to do it. What happens to CF on impact? Shatters. That is one car I would not like to be in unless on a track. Our cars are so light as it is, if you get all CF panels, you will fly away like a Cesna on launch. LOL!! Thanx for bringing that up.

 

i dont care what people have to say... look on ebay for carbon fiber, theres a shortage but you can get it............................. later kids
