I am going to start to work on making one and keep you guys posted on the process. It will take me longer since I am going to do it on my own rx7 and I don't want resin getting on my engine bay or car.

That red FDs engine bay is too sexy..

I tossed the idea around about painting the abs black as well, and may end up doing it if im not able to find someone who can make a carbon cover.

Yeah dude, the entire car was retarded. The attention to detail was amazing. Prew is a cool modest guy too.

I was trying to find more pics of this piece so I can look at the work that needs to be done. I have tried searching for it and can't find anything.

As far as the 3 piece idea, it's awesome! However, it would once again increase cost, complexity, and production. In a perfect world we would get both. A small piece to cover the ABS just up to the OEM heat shield, as well as the large 3 piece cover you mentioned. Of course, getting a vendor to sink the time into either would take some serious interest. A smaller single piece would be easy to develop, ship and sell.

Hopefully someone gets wind of this thread....

I will add. I saw a picture of Prew's car at the Carlisi BBQ last year and his engine bay pretty much blew everyone's mind. His ABS unit was completely painted and it hid it well. I considered doing this something similar. Ceramic paint is good stuff....

^^That is just sick... I always wondered what it would look like under there with everything all blacked out. And wow... Now I want to get rid of all my polished crap even more.

OK... So I started making clay molds of the shock tower areas on both sides to try and get started on this. I agree the three piece idea is a bit much, but when I build something I very much am **** retentive enough to try and do it right the very first time. This of coarse does not always happen, but it usually allows me to only have to make minor changes to subsequent renditions.

I do not plan on having anything put together anytime soon. Someone else may have this all done before me. But I am not out to make a ****-ton of these and sell em either. If it turns out good enough to sell some (and I refuse to sell anything less than something perfect) I will definitely make some for others, but I don't have lots of extra time.

Nice dude. Where about in florida are you? I am also going to give this an attempt to see where it goes.

Maybe we can merge ideas :-) is there a way to mold clay so that when you pull it out it stays in the same shape as you laid it down?

Orlando area. Yeah, I picked up some clay that hardens as it dries, no baking needed. I pulled them and they look pretty good. Hopefully in a week or two I will have time to lay them with fiberglass to see how the mold works. To be honest, it may not work out well. I may just lay fb in the engine bay and then use a better mold making compound on the fiberglass to create a better mold for final product.

Interested to see any updates on the mold, etc.

I called shine several times this week but no answer. I'll try again next week.

Kinda cool but I never really saw the point. What's wrong with having those areas exposed?

There's nothing wrong with it.

Personally I think it just makes for a cleaner engine bay.

^ this guy does make basic covers(mostly polished stainless)- but beware most of these parts are for right hand drive, this does make a difference since were talking abs cover.

i think having a cover would be bad ***. then again deleting the abs and getting rid of all the engine bay wiring would be just as sweet but after what happened to me recently i will be keeping my abs intact.

I'm trying hard to be tolerant, but I just can't manage it.

A cover for the ABS unit, which is already under the hood, has just got to be one of the dumbest ideas I have ever seen posted here. No wait, a carbon fiber cover. There, now it's perfect.

This is how to enjoy a car. Put key in ignition. Turn key. Drive fast until broken. Fix and repeat.

Done best with the hood down, and as little excess garbage attached as possible.
