Car wont turn off.....

Alrighty......I think i've tried everything.....

93 touring wont shut down. I had a greddy turbo timer on there with the greddy harness and the timer would count down but my car wouldnt turn off. So I thought the timer was the problem. so I did the following:

Removed the Greddy timer
Installed A new HKS unit.......Still wouldn't shut off.
Removed all Timers and hooked up wiring back to stock with no timer harness.
Car Still wont turn when I pull the key out.

The car turns off on its own variably.....sometimes one min, sometimes two or three min.
Thought it might be a relay.....but after talking to a few people I rulled that out..

I'm out of ideas..... Any thoughts ideas?!

Maybe try checking the ignition switch to make sure the wires aren't shorting out somehow?

Hi, have you got an alarm fitted, My friend had a on running issue, and it turned out his alarm had a run on timer that he had switched on by accident.

Honestly could not tell you myself, Just know that my friend had the same problem and it turned out that his alarm had a built in timer.

could just be a faulty ignition switch though.

alright.... So me and my buddy went through the whole wireing harness this afternoon... We found absolutely nothing.

He installs car alarms for a living....and also works on a lot of imports Ie.wrx's etc...
but we couldnt find a damn thing..
But it couldn't be the ignition switch because power to it is cut exactly when the key is turned off.
so it's gotta be my ignition system (XS engineering) or my comp...(apexi Commander)

if you have a good multimeter start checking fuses to see what ones are getting voltage to narrow down the circut. i had the same problem and turned out to be i had a fan relay connector went bad causing backfeeding voltage keeping my engine on. also start looking for loose wires or hot wires. this is going to be a tedious task in know but it takes time. if you dont have a meter start pulling and replacing fuses one at a time to narrow it down

I have a built in turbo timer with my alarm, but it has to be manually armed (via pushing 2 buttons at the same time) before I pull the key out in order for timer to stay on.

welcome to the forums! I'm the one that was driving the bonneville in our caravan. Glad to see you made it to the boards.

GL with electrical problems on the FD. Some of us have been chasing electrical gremlins for years.

FOUND IT!

It was a relay...but it was on top of the drivers side fender well.... the thing is I can turn the car off when I pull the thing and the turbo timer works......but What is this relay for? i'll take pics of it tomorrow. But there are two Yellow ones. And I don't have a cap for the relay box so I don't know exactly what it does.. and i've left it in because I don't wanna mess anything up. Anyone have any ideas? maybe i'll go look for a diagram somewhere.

cool.

here's the diagram. (make sure you get the body electrical manual, complete wiring diagrams, FD parts list and FSM manuals -- you can get them in the tech manual sticky on the main page)

Been instance or two of this happening locally, might pay to check your front wheel well harness too.

Usually large wheels or lowered or no attention paid to lack of liners > outer sheaf wears through > then individual wire insulation > total electrical confusion .

oh okay. Yea I'm trying to find a circuit relay out here but have contacted the mazda dealership and the parts guy seemed clueless despite me having a print out of the exact location and name of the relay. Have any ideas where I could get one from?

Did you check the parts list? Most Mazda parts people are TOTALLY clueless... I mean seriously, seriously clueless.

Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda is THE man to get parts from (he's on my speed dial); however, as you're looking for a relay the shipping is gonna be more than the cost of the relay.

What you need to do is to track down the relay and part number from the FD parts guide. Then call up your local stealership *dealership and just have the order if for you. There's a Mazda distribution center here in the Valley and you should have it in a couple of days.

Look around pages 3-E8 (page 315 out of 373)
