I still think it's your clutch switch. It's making an intermittant connection. That is why you got the hesitation the second time, and why pushing and releasing the clutch allowed it to start. You haven't solved your problem yet... it *will* happen again.

Glad you got it running again! But I still say it was the Battery. Someone probably charged it while you were underneath wacking the heck out of your starter.

The clutch switch is easy to replace, right? Not very involved? I'mma see if I can find a How-To on one of the RX7 sites...

EDIT: I didn't find a how-to of it yet...feel free to drop me a link if you have one!

Dawg lol...give it up haha. No one in my family is car savvy, PERIOD, including me lol. But I ignore that fact and have been trying my best to learn as much as I can. So no, no one would be doing anything car-related minus me. Hell, the oil on all the cars NEVER gets changed unless I get around doing it (even if it's like 15K miles later lol). That, and OMG...someone else touching my car? hahaha. That's a good one. I love my family and all....but they know better

Even today the rule still applies, "things with moving parts fail first most of the time." Just be happy you don't do this for a living.

Its the clutch switch..
Like Paw and I been saying.. And its similar to what I ask you to do earlier.. Turn the key to start and start pushing the clutch until the switch catches.. I still have to do this to my celica when it sits for awhile.. After it starts, it starts over and over.. I think its something to do with wear in the switch.... either something built up and not making a good connection or something..

Anywhay, I don't think banging on the starter did anything.. maybe psychological reassurance..

Well, any case, i'm glad it started..

Mike, I'll def. hollar at you about the clutch switch. My friend needs to change his too, but that's cuz his stock FD is stalling when the A/C is on...

The TV"s great...it's a HUGE improvement. I couldn't get the box outta the car, so I just opened the box lol. It fits PERFECTLY btw...good stuff. I still gotta play w/ the controls a bit tho, cuz there are these vertical lines every 2" or so that are kinda noticeable on the screen...

Phil, I'm glad it started too hehe. Like I said above, either way, that clutch switch is gettin changed. Rather do it now in my garage than have to deal w/ it later on in the middle of nowhere...

Actually, I DO do this for a living. But unlike mechanics who have it easy IMO, I have to fix things while they're still moving and make sure nothing goes wrong... how's THAT for a challenge lol

IF someone looks this up in the future... why, if everyone was so concerned about the battery, didnt someone tell him to just jump the solenoid terminals. Mine did this same exact stuff yesterday (how i found this thread)first i checked the battery with a multimeter and i also checked the solenoid and got 12.4 v so i knew it was good. and i just had my dad sit in the car (key forward) while i reached under with the car on the ground and "hotwired" it. it started right up. The auto warmup scared my dad though so i knew my problem is electrical. either the clutch switch or a relay for the solenoid.

I don't think its ignitor.. as you would still hear the starter turn.. I think???
You are correct. After I thought about it, the starter turned very slowly with the bad ignitor.

I still think it is a clutch switch problem.

LoL yea... J.S.J, I service the human type (doctor in training)

I know this is a piston engine...but the joke works nonetheless...

A mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the engine of a vintage Jag XK140 when a well-known heart surgeon came in to his shop. The surgeon was there waiting for the service manager to come take a look at his car. The mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey, Doc, can I ask you a question?"

The surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic working on the Jag. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and said "So, Doc, look at this engine. I open its heart, take pistons and rings out, fix 'em, put 'em back in and when I finish, it works just like new. So how come I get such a small salary and you get the really big bucks, when you and I are doing basically the same work?"

The surgeon paused, smiled and leaned over and whispered to the mechanic, "Try doing it with the engine running."

Hey while we're at it...could this have anything to do w/ it?

Lately, the ACT HD S/S clutch I have has been engaging higher, and the pedal is softer. As of this morning, it's engagement point is considerably higher, and the pedal is def. considerably lighter. I haven't experienced the clutch slipping yet, but I'm almost sure that these are symptoms of a clutch going out?? This clutch is only a year old, but it does have about 10 launches on it.
