Anybody get a car back on the road after having been totalled?
I need a "mechanics inspection", a DMV brake and lights check and a smog cert to get it back on the road. I'm not going to pass smog but could get a temp permit, and my lights and brakes are fine but I'm not sure what a mechanics inspection entails, I have a lot of mods...

The main thing is they look at damage area and look to see if everything was fixed even the plastic on the insie fender wells. Then they put car on frame machine to make sure its straight depending on reason for total. Hope this helps

When I did my two cars that had salvaged title (91 mr2 turbo, 93 rx), took them both to a "certified" repair station in Chico (2hrs. north of you). They do what is called a brake and light, give it the once over and send you away with a letter for the CHP. To get the thing registered, you will need this, smog check, and finally the CHP will inspect the car. I didn't see the CHP guy open my hood, but everyone may be different.
