Car starts then immediatley dies

Just put the motor back in, full nonsequential, all emissions stuff removed. Power FC, but it still does the same thing with stock computer. I cant hear the fuel pump priming with key, and when grounding FP in diag box, a light buzzing is heard in engine bay. When i turn the car on, after quite a few seconds, it starts but dies immediatley. any ideas?

VERRRYYYY Weird Problem

I just got the motor back in, and tried to turn it on. The problem i am having is the only way i can get the car to stay on is if i hold the key in the start position. i can let it go a bit so it doesnt activate the starter, but i have to keep it slightly in the start position for it to stay on. it does this with both a PFC and stock computer. Any idea??????????

Sounds like the ignition switch is going bad. I have a good extra one.

Have someone turn the key and put your ear over the gas tank (with the cap off) - you should hear it prime. If not, then that is an obvious problem.

I'd also check the position of your crank angle sensors, make sure they are both connected and within spec from the wheel.

i going to pull it out tomorrow and try just touching the wires independant of the switch. im just surprised if its the switch cause it worked perfectly before i pulled the motor about 6 months ago. But then again, the fact that the PFcommander only lights up when its held on start makes the switch seem like the problem.

Almost certainly the switch, same switch that we have on all the MX5's/Miata's, we have about 1 in 20 cars do the very same thing.

Mine doesn't always (actually very rarely) primes when the key turns to on. I've looked everywhere in the manual and can't find that it is supposed to. Get a fuel pressure gauge and watch it. If your pump is running when you ground it, it sounds good - but check the fuel pressure because it still could be a fuel problem. Your fuel filter may be clogged, or maybe the pump isn't getting enough voltage or maybe the pump is on the way out and can't keep up with the engine.

Need to get a meter and hook it to the coils and see if your loosing the 12v. when yo release the key from the start position, (IIRC) when in the start position there is a connection to the coils while in this position then when released to normal run position the coils are fed through a different wire (this would explain why it would run in the start position and not the normal position).
