car smokes when I turn off.

(first of all I tried registering to the forum and it will not let me, it says I am already registered, and automatically logs me in under this ID (I am not DLE))

I bought my rx-7 tonight.

I drove it around real quick seemed healthy, has 80,000 miles on it. Has not been driven much about 3,000 miles a year at most.

So I drive it 2 hours home, everything is perfect the whole way home, I pull into my parking space and then the oil pressure drops, I turn the car off and tons of smoke from under the hood.

After the smoke clears and it cools down, I restart the engine, oil pressure is back, and no smoke, until I turn it off then it smokes again.

I have no idea, why, and I am clueless about rotary engines.

The previous owner told me it has a tiny rear main oil leak, is this the culpret or somehting more serious.

Free to say I am tearing my hair out, praying it is nothing serious but please let me know your opinion.

why don't you open your hood, turn your car on, then turn it off and see where the smoke is coming from?

update

I took the rx7 around the block this morning brought it back and no smoke.

Also last night the car seemed underpowered, hehe, was looking under the hood and noticed an unconnected intercooler pipe. So much much more power now.

So I am happy about the additional power, and the fact that smoke was not billowing out from under my hood, however still wondering why it would have last night.

It was too dark last night to spot where the smoke was coming from, and it isn't smoking this morning (and I am not going to atttempt to make it smoke either)

I am taking the car in this morning to try and get it to qualify for a 3 year warranty.

Any ideas???

First of all.. The oil pressure gauge isn't telling you anything. Many of them are inaccurate at best. I doubt it is an oil issue at all.

Did the smoke smell sweet? Sounds to me like the primary COOLANT line popped and ran on the exhaust manifold. Happens all the time. Many times it won't show signs of a split until AFTER shutdown, when water temps normally rise significantly. It will actually hold coolant under normal driving and puke coolant when the car turns off and coolant starts to boil in the block.

I suggest (Since you already stated you are clueless) you take it to a GOOD ROTARY mechanic and have the car looked over. 80K is about time for a good once-over and replacement of worn, or damaged parts. Actually, it's OVER-due. If you really want (And the car isn't a daily driver)... get yourself a FSM and replace the lines yourself. Good luck.

What he said. I'd guess a coolant hose anyway, fix it right away, coolant is flammable.
