Car Smokes, has oil leak

At startup there is a greyish-white smoke from the exhaust and there are small oil stains on my garage floor. Also at startup there is a strong gas smell. One of the turbos have been rebuilt. Where should I look for the oil leak and what is causing it to smoke?

Well the thing is, after reading up on this car, at this age the car will smoke a bit when starting up.

My R1 also has a strong gas smell as well.

I took it to Mazda today so they could diagnose the problem. The rear main seal of engine needs to be replaced and the oil gasket has to be replaced. They said it will run about $1,500. Does that seem right or will there be more hidden fees?

Man, PLEASE read about Mazda dealerships and these cars!!! Only two dealerships have I read about that had their heads out of their asses. Seriously.

Gas smell is a serious problem that can and typically doen lead to engine fire in our cars. Find it and fix it.

Search for the rear main seal. Which "oil gasket" do they mean? Oil pan gasket? Turbo oil retur gasket? Turbo oil feed gasket? Oil level warning sensor gasket?

Anyways, I'm sure you will hear this from others... dealerships are really bad with this car. Take it to a specialist.

I would call and try to get your car over the RX-7 Store:

http://www.rx7store.net/contactus.html

At least get a second opinion. As always, yes there could be more hidden fees. Especially, if they do the work they say and it still doesn't fix your problem. Then you'll have to pay for more work.

Yes I know i should take it to the RX-7 store however my father insists that it is serviced at Mazda. The guy said he was trained by a really good rotary mechanic from Germany named Syd. That eases a little of the tension. I am still worried but you have to have a little faith sometimes. And it is the Oil pan gasket.

Well, the gasket to the oil pan should not be used. They should use sealant instead. Most Mazda dealers have been doing that for years already (as well as rotary specific shops).

Yes, if it's gas and not exhaust fumes. When you start your car, open the hood and sniff around to see if you can smell any fuel.
