car dying with a/c on

Hey guys.. just wonderin if anyone else has this problem. At idle with the car in gear and the air on the car dies. At idle without the car in gear and the air on its fine. Any ideas? I've turned the idle up a little but it doesnt seem to help.

Does it die with the lights on (ac off) and the car in gear? Or does the idle get choppy?

There have been a multitude of posts regarding situations just like you describe.

Bad clutch switch. Had the same prob. years back. Theres alittle switch thats under the clutch pedal that tell the ECU that the clutch is in. With AC on, rpms raise a little when the switch is pushed in(start the car, shifting),. With a bad switch, it doesnt tell it to raise idle and the car dies. Look under there and see if the plastic switch(looks like a pen top) is busted.

Ahh, good to know. Now I know for sure it's not my clutch switch.

I have an automatic that during hot weather will die while in drive and the ac is turned on.

Kick the ac off and it's not as bad, but still probable to die.
