What caused the fire?

I think I'm going to add a couple more extinguishers to my car. I could learn to deal with a wreck and losing the car as sometimes they are unavoidable, but a fire would haunt me knowing I could of probably stopped it with proper safety equipment.
Remember the TSB about the fuel line replacement on the 93 model year. Get them done... and take one step further. Replace the soft line between the tank and the hard line. I suspect that the TSB did not cover that in particular :P.

It actually started under the car... by the driver rear fender. So the suspicion is with a possible leaky fuel line.

They guys who were with me felt worst than I did... all I was looking for was a tall cold beer. Bottom line, it's only a car... and it can be replaced.

They make an adapter that clips onto the stock hard lines to adapt to "-an" style fittings for steel braided hoses. I'll be running all "-an" when i get my car back together.

Upgrade your fuel pulsation dampner and the lines with high pressure fuel hose if you haven't already done so. Ray @ Malloy has the upgraded fuel kit, it doesn't come with the pulsation dampner though.

Which, unfortunately, are better than my fire extinguisher utilization skills!

What could have ignited the fuel all the way back there?

Did I read on there that you had just had an alignment done the week before?

If I remember the routing of the gas lines correctly, they come up over the diff by the filter, then bend down and run along the rear driver's fender area along the driver's frame rail.

Is it possible that when they put your car up on the lift or rack to do the alignment that someone crushed, bent, or mangled one of the fuel hoses just a bit leading to the failure?

It just seems odd that a fire would start back there....

too much heat perhaps... the closest we could think of was a leaky fuel line, just by the location of the fire.

Agreed... but with all that has been said and done. The car served me well for 12 years I had her. It's just time to move on.

There may be a possibility that that may have been the cause, but the car was only insured under liability. The insurance company did not pursue it. And for the amount of time and effort that I would have to put into the investigation and litigation... it's not worth it. Time is a premium with me these days...

And with all that has been said and done, the car served me well for 12 years I had her. I've got alot of enjoyable memories to go with it. It's just time to move on to another toy .
