car boils after shutdown, bad?

Hi guys,
i just took my car out to get it warmed up, after winter. it still isn't very good to drive here. so i drove around for about 5-10 minutes after letting it sit in the garage for a while. i didn't push it hard or anything, and when i turned it off, i opened the hood and i could hear it boiling. it sounded like air bubbles inside the cooling system. it stops after 5 minutes or so, so i assume it's boiling from heat. my car is a 93 touring, stock. is this normal?

It's normal...it's not bubbles in your cooling system. Every car does it, especially the hot running rotary. Get a downpipe to get rid of the pre cat, I know I'm ordering my HKS today

Do not start putting higher pressure caps on a coolant system that wasn't designed for them. The boiling sound you hear IS coolant boiling around the precat. If you want the sound to go away, get a dp.

agreed, don't get higher pressure caps unless you've upgraded your radiator and AST at the very least... You really shouldn't need higher pressure caps anyway.

To be extra safe (not releated to upgrading - just in general), have a pressure test done on your cooling system to make sure there are no leaks (a leak in the cooling system could also be a cause of exessive boiling).

mine used to make a boiling sound, I thought it was normal too. But after changing a leaking coolant hose, a 13lb ast cap, flush the coolant system, the boiling sound is now gone.

Also try topping off the radiator fluid when the engine is cold. This eliminated the gurgling sound I had after shutoff.

It's just heat soak. It's not really bad. Just make sure you keep your coolant levels up and you'll be fine.

Mine stopped after a pettit AST was installed. You could feel coolant "thumping" through the thermohousing lines back into the AST as the engine heat-soaked and depressurized the cooling system. Definitley top off the coolant and burp it.

Mine stopped bubbling also

New fluidyne radiator and silicone hoses, emptied AST (no new one yet)and flushed coolant. Sounds like it's probably air in the system. Try a coolant flush and a new Petit AST wouldn't hurt.
