Angry Can't shift fast into 4th!?!

Recently I've been practicing power-shifting and I can hit every gear much more quickly than when I took my car to the track a month ago.

My time was a 14.2 at 98mph and a reaction time of .531. The mods that affect my performance are a custom intake, downpipe, and exhaust done by RX-7.com. Does that time seem slow to you, and do you think I could be faster?

Now here's where my main question is -- when shifting into 4th, something physical causes a delay -- I'll pull straight down from 3rd and some sort of blocker will hold me in neutral. The blocker releases after about half of a second. If I try to pull extremely hard from 3rd to 4th, I hear some sort of popping/grinding sound. For fear of messing something up I obviously haven't done that but a few times, and I'm very scared to do it while at high RPMs at the track.

What's the deal? That slow shift to 4th kills me in any street race where I would normally win.

yes, the time is slow. it also depends on your driving, clutch, and tire/suspension set-up. if your clutch is slipping, it'll be slower, and if you are blowing the tires away and experiencing wheel hop, you'll have terrible 60ft times, and can't make up for ti in the end.....

maybe a shift fork or a synchro going out

Blown synchro alright. I lost my second gear synchro a while back. Screw it, just slam it in gear. Let that dog bark all it wants.

I get the same thing but there is never any grinding. I thought when the syncro is bad you grind gears a lot?
