Cant Get Out Of Park!!!

I just finished putting my engine in, hooked everything up and when I went to put the car in neutral to push it out of my garage it wouldnt let me shift. The car is in the on position I put the brake down and I can press down the shifter button and the shifter is just stuck in park. when I took the motor out I didnt pull the tranny so its not like I screwed with the shifter linkage or anything like that. I mean its been in park for a while (3 months) but that shouldnt do anything. this is the only thing from getting my engine started and iam panicing!!! please help.

There must be a signal that tells the tranny interlock to disengage when you have the brake on. Are you sure that all your wires are hooked up?

check that you hooked up all the connections on top of the transmission. there are quite a few clips up there that you can't really see very well. be sure that you didnt forget any of them, or if they're not fully clipped

Pop the cap off the hole at the bottom of the shifter, stick a screwdriver in there, and it disengages the lock.
