Can you have a FD flywheel "turned"?

Can "turn" a stock FD flywheel? Meaning take it to a machine shop and have them resurface it?

I have heard that if you do this that you will have low pedal pressure and so you're pretty much not supposed to do it. Has anyone here had their stock FD flywheel resurfaced/"turned"?

who ever told you about pedal feel is a complete moron.

Yes the surface can be resurfaced..

As far as what gives you pedel feel is the pressure plate [this to could be what they were saying shouldn't be resurfaced] if this is resurfaced witch is just a waste of money and shouldn't be done I guess it would change the pedel play but Really.

If you want a Stiffer Pedal go with a Hevier Pressure plate if you like the stock pedal you can go with a little bit hevier but not much and still keep the stock feel.

Remeber a Real Hevy Pressure plate is a Bitch to drive regualy in stop/go driving world.

By the way When I mean Hevier I don't mean actual weight of the pressure Plate I mean how much pressure it takes to Engage and Disengage the clutch witch equates to Gripping power of the clutch to flywheel...... yadda yadda in that tearms...

Thanks..

I am putting a clutch in my car soon and want to use the stock flywheel as I will be doing more drag racing than road racing..

I actually didn't know a pressure plate could be re-surfaced but I would never do that anyways. And yeah I know what you are refering to when you say stiffer pedal feel...

I have never seen any one attempt to resurface a pressure plate but assume since it is metal that if you were to lets say install a pressure plate drive on it for lets say 3-5k miles and lets say blow the engine and take the engine out and find that you want to upgrade the clutch disk but keep your orriginal pressure plate since lets say you bought a real good hevy duty one.. Well I'm guess you could take a hundred thousands of an inch off it to give it a newer surface to reset the new clutch I.E. get my point but personaly I would just get a new pressure plate then go through that trouble or not even worry about it and just leave it alone and reinstall like it was.........

Ohh and good luck getting the flywheel off =]

you need either a REAL GOOD HIGH Torque impact wrench of a real good Torque multiplier..

the 34mm?? not sure if thats right but the big *** Bolt holding the flywheel onto the esentric shaft is torqed on at atleast 300+ flt pound sometimes 400+ ftpounds

Ohh and you need a flywheel lock to be able to keep the flywheel from turning when trying to get that nutt off....... [btw don't ask me how I got mine off it was a hell of a jimmy rigged job =]

I know, this is my 2nd clutch job on the car, so I know a little of the pains even though my brother helped me out on the 1st one. I forget what we used to keep the flywheel from turning... screwdriver maybe? Hmm... Oh yeah and I know the flywheel nut is a bitch too.. On the first clutch job we did on the car I put a brand new flywheel on it because I thought you couldn't have them resurfaced for some reason like you can on every other manual transmission car. Paid three hundred dollars and some change for that new stock flywheel too..

theres a special service tool to hold the flywheel inplace..if not i think racing beat has a bar that has holes in it that aligh over the pins on the flywheel.and that works good....

just remember the fd flywheel is a 2 STEP flywheel...make shure the machine shop knows how to do 2 step and what the angle of pitch thay need to cut it...

Dude, why the hell would you try to sell a car in a thread about resurfacing a flywheel?

I don't think that is possible. Sounds right along the same line as lightening your flywheel by drilling holes in it.
