Can someone tell me whats wrong?

Sup guys, well i own a 1995 rx-7 twin turbo 65k. My car is in perfect condition has been taken care of very well. It has a nice clean engine and the interior is flawless. I have one problem though i live in california so the weather gets kind of hot down here. If i ride my car normal everything is fine and the next time i go to start it up it has no problems. But whenever i use it for a long time or i work it out, if i try to turn it back on after 20 minutes or less it wont budge. So i have to leave it to rest for abotu half an hour until it will start up again. I was wondering if any1 knows why its doing this? Is something broken? my car is stock besides an hks intake. i'm planning to upgrade to an aluminum AST and get a downpipe, will these mods take care of my problem?

No, the mods you list won't help "fix" your car. The downpipe will give you a bit more power and help eliminate heat from your engine bay, and the aluminum
AST is a good replacement for the stock plastic tank.

Search around a bit, I am pretty sure there have been a few threads about hard starting as you describe.

Your starter might be out on you, when its old and get hot it may not want to work. I am in So cal. too and I don;t have that prob at all.

It may be a solenoid issue. I remember reading about a solenoid (just a relation) that is mounted on the inside of the LIM, when it gets old and hot it will not work and causes boost issues. You may have an issue with this and a solenoid getting old and hot.

I suspect Danno is right, you stated it would not budge. Often starters act this way when they are hot. You probably need a new starter.

Yep, the FPR solenoid:

What exactly happens when it doesn't work? You turn the key and...
1) Nothing happens.
2) It clicks, but the starter doesn't spin the engine.
3) The engine spins, but it won't start.
4) The cabin instantly fills with multi-colored rabbits, paralyzing me just before I am able to turn the key. I pass out from lack of air, have a sex and/or shark attack dream, and then when I wake up in half an hour, the rabbits are gone and the car works normally (not likely, but you never know).

mahjik, the FPR solenoid only alters the pressure to the FPR during hot starts.....

it wouldn't prevent the car from starting, it would cause boost issues

i have the problem too. only when i go to start it, it will click. sometimes it does it sometimes it doesnt. usually if it starts to act up i let the fans run a few sec. and then it starts up again. im pretty sure its a starter problem but i'm ok to live with it for the next month until i get my r6 and rebuild my fd where in socal do you live?

Thnx for all the advice guys. I dont get why the starter would be "old and going gay on me" because the rest of the engine is flawless its strong as **** and its clean. I live in Northridge about hmm.....20-40 minutes from LA. Well thnx for the advice again i'll go check that out

On the T2, the clutch switch used to go bad or become mis-adjusted, which would cause the car to not start (just click, or perhaps nothing -- can't remember which). Pushing really hard on the clutch pedal would sometimes get around the problem.

The next time it happens, let go of the key, take your foot off the clutch pedal, and then turn the key again. If the sound is the same, it might be the clutch switch that just barely changes when the car is hot. This probably isn't too likely, but it is a lot cheaper than a new starter, and can usually be worked around by pushing on the clutch pedal really hard.
