I couldn't find anything in a search, so hopefully someone out there has experience with this. Is it possible to use Rotor Housings from a N/A 2nd Gen RX-7 for my 3rd Gen?


They look identical except for their is some sort of diffuser in the exhaust port you would have to take out and put the one from the 3rd gen rotor housing in the 2nd gen housing.


Any help would be appriciated!

Not a good idea unless you change the exhaust sleeves which is a pain. I have seen people be cheap and lazy and try to cut out the diffusers in the sleeves. This leaves sharp edges that become superheated. I have seen the entire sleeve melt down in extreme cases. Do it right and get the correct parts.

one thing to consider: Mazda changed the treatment of the chrome surface on the FD rotor housings so that less lubrication from the OMP would be required (2 oil injectors on FD instead of the 4 on previous 13B's). The 2nd gen rotor housing did not have this more advanced chrome surfacing so it won't retain an oil film as well, especially when it is higher mileage. I'd be reluctant to use the n/a housing if you aren't going to premix.

Pulling the roll pins a swapping the sleeves takes all of 10 minutes.

If this is something that you are considering then you can only use the S5 N/A housings, not the S4, as there is no knock sensor hole and the spark plugs are in different locations. You should run premix.

We reccommend using the correct housings, but if you are building it yourself and are on a tight budget, there is nothing stopping you from using the S5 N/A rotor housings
