I think they are the same. To double check though, call your local parts store and ask them for a filter number for both cars. If they match then you know for sure.

Yes. The older filters tend to be bigger, which is one reason I use them on my car. I actually use aftermarket (non-Mazda) filters specified for FCs and older rotaties rather than the ones specified for the third gen, but I imagine the Mazda FC filter would work also.
