can i drive with the check engine light on?

I know the answer would normally be no, but I know what the problem is. My speedometer, odometer and tripmeter all stopped working. So now the check engine light comes on anytime i don't drive like a granny (under 4k rpms and no boost). I double checked the code and it is in fact 6, the one that tells my my speedometer might not be working. I plan on trying to get dave at KD to take a look at it soon, but I am tired of pulling off the road and restarting to car to get the light to go away as well as acceletating like a geo metro. What do you think?

The fact that the light is on just means that the computer has detected a fault in one of the sensors. Assuming its not something that could cause harm to the engine, then driving it with the light on is ok. There's no reason to restart the car just to turn the light off. Just drive it like normal and get it checked out when you can.

I drove with my CEL light on for about 6 months b/c of the egr valve. It doesn't matter.

I would pull the engine code and find out which error code it is. It may be something small that you can drive around on or you may be toying with engine failure. Only way you are gonna know is to pull the code.
