Can FD Rx7s ever do 200k clicks without a rebuild?
Hi fellas
I just wanna know if this is possible from a rotary engine? has anyone have an rx7 that has done over 150,000kms without a rebuild? Just like to know when is a good time to get one done because the one i have just purchased seems to run like a beaut and its nearly at 100clicks. can you get longevity from these engines without a fresh rebuild?
cheers

do some searching around the board. This has been discussed a million times...
fwiw the engines last anywhere from 0 miles to 150ish. 150 would be the high end for a turbo rotary, not to say they wont last longer but its the exception not the rule. My car was on its 4th engine by the time I sold it at 85,000 miles.
1 to the previous owner
1 to my brother borrowing it and not warming it up
1 to a coolant seal
and now number 4 to be blown hopefully by the piece of **** that bought the car from me. (no hostility i promise )

mine has 120000 miles not sure how much that is in kms
JDM cars seem to have longer lifespans due to a range of variables. Im think its because there is no pre-cat.
ive seen FDs at 150,000kms without rebuilds for sale before.
But dont wait for the engine to explode. Open it up at 100,000kms and check everything and give it a refresh. If you get into the engine early, more things may be able to be reused.

My car had 212,000 km's on the factory engine and turbos when I purchased it. Still made compression, but I rebuilt anyways. It had been sitting due to a bad diagnosis by the Mazda dealer.
Garaged + highway miles + 1 older female owner...
IMHO, these engines can go a long time. Unfortunately, most owners are more concerned with a 99 front bumper and midpipes than putting in pre-mix or changing the coolant.

My last FD came all stock, owned by an old geezer who babied the **** out of it, and it was still running strong, boosting properly at 147,000. I decided to rebuild it before something went, and that way I could get a port on it. As far as Im concerned, FD reliability is directly based upon proper maintaince and just generally not abusing it. All of my Fd's have been plenty reliable.
