Can anyone Identify these [stock-ish]twins?

As stated in my previous thread, the previous owner told me these were BNR rebuilds only 4k miles old. However some of my recent findings has poked holes all over the previous owners credibility. I'm fairly sure these are *not* stage3 rebuilds from BNR as there are 5 pairs of blades where I've noticed 6 on the BNR I've seen here, and on their site. The twins do however, look fairly clean, and newish. The rotors also look like they're coated, but I've never seen a stock twin to compare it with. Please note the pictures below are of the same snail, I haven't had time to crawl under and look at the other yet.

Why don't you send the pics to Bryan at BNR? If those are BNR rebuilds, they must be an older Stage II, because those are 100% not Stage IIIs. (which look like this: https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...7&postcount=86)

They look a lot like the older upgraded turbos that were once offered by Turbonetics. I'll see if I can dig up some pics as I used to have a set of these back in 2001 or so. Could swear the blades are just like the Turbonetics ones.

^^You must have bought them from Alex, one of the other owners of Gotham. Good friend of mine.

They're 'high flows,' I believe Alex dynoed around 370-380 at 15 psi. I can ask him for more information on them for you, puffy

By looking at the pictures, they're not nearly as big as the BNR Stage 3s. Seems that the previous owner bullshitted you.

Here you go, a few pics of the Turbonetics upgraded twins. The first pic is of the Turbonetics system:

And the second is a pic of the Turbonetcis unit (right) compared to the stock unit (left).:

The Turbonetics unit used the same housing as the stockers but the turbos themselves were larger than stock. Same principle as the BNRs but not as well executed. Heard the units weren't very reliable and tended to explode. This happened to mine once and were rebuilt for free by Turbonetics. I then sold them.

On second thought, though, the Turbonetics unit also had six blades, not five as yours. Also notice on yours the thickness in the diameter of the metal that surrounds the turbo cartridge compared to how thin the Turbonetics metal is in the diameter. Upon further review, I don't believe the unit you've pictured has been upgraded or enlarged at all. Could it be just a stock unit? Looks just like the stock one in the pic I've posted. You are right though, the inside does look coated. Could it be a Pettit set of twins? They blue print and balance theirs as well as coat them. Same diameter as the stock ones though. Hmmn...

Goodfella, I'd appreciate any information you could get about these, and I wouldn't be surprised if the previous seller bullshitted me as he did on a few other items as well(as stated in my other thread), but to be fair he never stated that they were stage3's, only 'BNR rebuilds'. As of now I'm only hoping to god that the coolant seal isn't actually blown, but that remains to be seen.

David, thanks for posting the pictures, at least we know they're not Turbonetcis units as mine has only 5 pairs of blades. If they ARE stock I'm inclined to believe that they're still fairly new due to the condition of the blades.. BUT, they're blowing oil all over the inside of my intercooler so they're probably going to explode soon, as you stated.

cbf246, I'd appreciate it if you could post pictures of your unit as well, another compare and contrast couldn't hurt

thanks all, I'm going to see if I can crawl under and take pics of the second snail as well.

Yeah, those look to me like stockers. Up until recently Bryan at BNR did perform stock rebuilds, so maybe that's what you have. Blowing some oil into the intake tract is normal, assuming you only have a thin coat, although based on that last pic you need to go to work with a couple of cans of degreaser
