Yo Ed, are you going to be at MADS next weekend?

ok dude the only thing I have to say is, get what you want. It's not worth getting a car when you are like 30 years old, IT IS NOT the same thing. Get it while you are young coz that's where the fun is. GO FOR IT!

I'm too ******' old! (48). Time to rollover and die.
Old age and treachery will outdo youth and ambition - every time.
if you're like me you really don't need a car at college. i plan to buy an fd next year but just keep it at home (homes a lot closer for me). i also wanna get a cbr600 f3 just for my daily driver but my parents aren't too cool with that
i agree with fortyoz2eric... most colleges are set up in a way that you don't really need a car... i mean, how can they expect everyone to have access to a car while they're at school? I've been at UCLA for 2 years now, no car, no problem. Although, i must say, having a car handy would be nice... I also agree that you should buy what you want because you'll never be satisfied... like, my parents don't want me to get a sports car at all, so they kind of turned their back on me (in respect to the car and related issues only), so i'm saving up for my fd as well... working part time for now... full time in summer... and hopefully i'll have enough for the car, the reliability mods, insurance and an extra couple grand for emergency stuffs.

Ha! I'm getting mine tomarrow. It's even sweeter that the car is 2 hours away. I'm gonna sign the paperwork, ****** the keys from the used to be owner and drive my new girlfriend up the coast to its new home.
Mmmmmmm...coastal pleasures.

buy a honda, eat ramen noodles, save your money, finish school, become a doctor/physicist/engineer/lawyer whatever, graduate get a great job makes tons-of-flow, find the cure to cancer, win a pulitzer, get published, marry a hot *** younger woman that's interested only in your money, then by that time you can buy as many FD's you want to fill up your 10 car heated fully decked out garage. Of course leaving room for the black Mclaren F1 you'll buy off of Jay Leno.
Good luck. -Eddie

Honestly though... are all you vetern RX-7 owners trying to discourage us new comers so that you all can hog this great looking and fast cars all to yourselves?
I too would like a daily driver and don't mind the hassles of the routine maintenance. But does this car break down that often when you do all the required maintenance? Also, could the way a person drive affect the reliablity of the car?
...thanks for the input.

Boys, Ed is one old ****
I drove my R1 as a daily driver for 4 years. It never gave me a single problem. I did blow the engine eventually overheating it on the way back from a track event.
I can't vouch for a used(pre-owned, if you like) RX7, but I believe that a well maintained relatively stock 3rd gen would be reliable as a daily driver.
Now, the 3rd gen as a car for a college student, I wouldn't recommend. I would think that a more utilitarian transportation(read back seats and a real trunk) would be more appropriate.
I've had my car for five years and logged about 78,000 miles in my seven. It wasn't cheap to own that's for sure! I sure as hell couldn't have afforded to maintain and mod my car in college. Good luck if you do it! It will be fun as hell, for a while...
