Calling all "War-7's"

Just wanted to see who else was out there, not just those in the military, but specifically have used the money saved on deployments to the Gulf War(can't exclude Rich), OEF, or OIF, to purchase their RX-7.

I posted in 3rd Gen because, well, you can pick up a 1st or 2nd gen without the deployment money.

I'm a 1stLt Infantry Officer in the USMC (prior enlisted), combat vet of both OEF and OIF, and bought my 2nd and current 7 after being deployed to Afghanistan. Iraq helped pay for the engine and turbo rebuild.

As a note, this thread isn't to make a single statement about support or not, save that **** for the weekly threads in the lounge. Just want to see who else got to get into (or back into) the 7 world with that good old deployment money getting you over the hump.

Holla, kids.

Yatzee!

I was all over Iraq, OCT05-APR06 i spent most of my time in Al Taqaddum i ventured out a few times. Our Seabee detachment was working under the 1st MEF and 2nd MEF they swaped when i was there. i earned my 7 with that tax free! and then got my turbo kit and fuel system with my tax free from Africa this year.

Im a Combat Engineer with the 1141st Sappers, i was in Iraq from November05-Nevember06. i used the majority of the money i saved to get my FD, so the dream of owning a 3rd gen could come true. after i got it i sold my second gen and used the money on my new 7.

Speaking of which Eric, your new engine rotors should have arrived at their destination

Zach, how old do you think I am ? I deployed in 2003 supporting both OIF and OEF. Ar Ramadi, Al Fallujah, Al Asad and can't forget Baghdad

I bought my FD when I came home from OIF II. I was based out of TQ, however with the National Guard. It was good being on TQ because I'm prior servise Marine Corps. Actually thought about going back over and using the $ from that for a 3 rotor project. Hmmmmmmm....

Former Marine, but currently working for the Federal Government. Been to both Iraq and Afghanistan 3 times now, and soon to go back. I'm actually an explosives detection K9 handler. So far every trip I've taken I've used some of the money for car parts. Which the wife hates.

Mike.

i never knew i was discussing everything with loads of army men here. lol

but then i guess its proved as most skylinesand sports cars in general in japan are owned by truck drivers, and they take them out only on weekends. Means its kinda associated with special kind of people who are related to some special kind of profession.

what a cult

I'm a Sgt. currently in the Army Nat'l Guard as a Forward Observer (13F). I'm preparing for Round 3 in Iraq... More parts money... Hooray! I spent 18 months deployed from 03-05. When I came home from Iraq on my leave, I picked up my 1st FD; then went back for another 5 months... Pure torture. I couldn't wait to get back to my FD. I spent damn near every penny I had earned from that deployment on my 1st FD, and it motivated me to volunteer for a 2nd tour in Iraq about 5 months later. After 16 months in Iraq, I came back and bought my T78 turbo kit and bought my #2 FD several months later. Tax-Free is the way to be!

Used to work ejection seats on F15Es and my re-enlistment bonus was 35K BUT I hated the military so much I told them to go F' themselves.

Sometimes I wish I would have, most of the time I don't.

BUT my old FD was paid for and the Pettit Banzai setup would have been on order.

Alot of that depends on how many years you have to extend for. I'm being offered the $35,000 for a 3 year commitment, but that amounts to about an extra $10,000 a year after taxes. Thats good money, but when you compare that to the job offers from the civilian side, that and a nickel equals a whole bunch of nothing. If I stay, it won't be for the bonus.
