CA Smog success w/ downpipe, efini Y, 99 turbos?
I'm really interested in hearing any recent experience/advice on passing CA smog with a few light mods.
I'm interested in bidding on a FD on BAT, but it's got a downpipe, Efini Y, and 99 turbos - all else being stock. From my understanding, the only thing I would need to do is to install a 50 state legal pre-cat (Like this). I've also read anecdotes on this forum from a few years ago on success stories of passing smog with a warm car. The efini y and 99 turbos shouldn't have an impact on emissions correct?
Does anyone have any success stories/recommendations? I'm in the Los Angeles Area. Thanks!

Unless you come across some kinda FD/smog test guru, they'll never know about the 99 specs.
It's definitely possible to pass the sniffer test, just don't mention the upgrades.

+1 the turbo and Y pipe won't make any difference, any it would take a sharp eye to notice.
the pre cat is the thing, the car will pass the sniffer part without it, but it won't pass the visual. some smog guys care and some don't.
these days i would just put a precat on for the test, and save the hassle. it does need to be a stock one, or a CARB legal one, although it can be hollow as its just there for show
car does need to be warmed up, when you go to the smog place just leave it running

I think $46k was a good buy, the fresh motor and wheels were a big plus, drive it carefree : )
Lost out right at the end there. I'm sure whoever got it will enjoy for a long time.
I appreciate all the feedback everyone! Definitely helpful for my continued search.
