My budget was 9k when buying my FD. I found a horde of Rx7s that were complete timebombs, but eventually I found my car. Deals are out there man, its just 4/5 low priced FDs will be garbage so if you don't know what your looking for you will get ripped off.
I looked for 6 months, it was worth the wait. A lot of people make it sound like you need a 6 digit salary to afford this car or something, its been about 2 years of owning it through highschool now on 10 dollars an hour.
Good luck

^^^considering that nothing is cheap on this car, and that good mechanics are few and far in between yes a decent income is needed to really keep these cars and still ENJOY life.
My car is not my life... far from it actually. I have other proprities in my life that take precedence and when my car breaks, my wallet does not like it but it does not stop time. Meaning that I still make the mortgage, insurance and all my other bills, I still take that vacation, I still do everything that I was gonna do prior to it breaking... No matter what broke (engine (5K) turbos (2K), OMP (2k)... whatever).
So yes you do need a decent income in order to enjoy these cars and life at the same time. I've owned this car for 9 years and put 100k onit so I know what these things can cost.
Blowing an engine, or needing new turbos and not having the money right there and there is not being able to afford this car. If you have to sacrifice something in order to save up money to get the car back on the road you then this car isn't the best choice for you. Just becasue you can pay for it does not mean that you can afford it.
