Busted Speedo! :(

I was getting on the onramp to 85 today and I noticed my speedo was showing zero. I let off the gas and then it jumped to 80, then paused at 60, then dropped back to zero. Any advice?

IIRC, there is a gear in the tranny that drives a sensor that connects electrically to the ecu. My guess is the speedo gear in the tranny is worn. I've seen that fail a time or two. I think it is plastic. If you have or download a PDF factory service maunal its easier to see what we are talking about.

Thanks for the input I'll go dl the manual. If it is the tranny gear, is it a difficult job to fix it? I'd like to work on the car myself but I'm still somewhat of a beginner. Any other thoughts?
