burning to much oil - turbo or engine?

this weekends track event went great but the car ws buring a LOT of oil, the obvious reasons would be the engien burnign it up or the turbo seals letign it by into the intake or exhaust.

the behavior was very odd though, not familiar to me, it went like this:

- start car up cold.... normal smoking stuff, nothing unusual
- car warms up....after a while it will smoke a lot, not coolant, but oil smoke
- get on the gas hard, not much smoke, the smoking goes away, for example on the track it didnt smoke much at all
- come into pits from hard run and park car for a while (running) to let it cool down, a few minutes later, smoking a lot

things to note, I have the racing oil pressure regulator in this engine and the e-shaft oil mod (not the jets on the eshaft but the thermal mod dealio at the end)

Andy and I are guessing that its the turbo letting it into the exhaust, we took the itakes pipes off and they were clean as can be, no oil at all, so its not getting sprayed into the intake side.

my theory is that when im flogginh it the turbo shaft spinning is helping move oil past the core of the turbo, thus keeping its pressure in the turbo core in check, but after i come off and the the car idle a while, the slow turbo shaft movement dosnt help move the oil and the pressure build up there, pushing it out of the ex-side ..... but im just speculating. I know the g35R and other turbos need oil restriction to protect them from the high oil pressures, and im wondering if I should do the same, add a restrictor to the oil feed line to the turbo.

any suggestions? insights?

If you can pull the turbo, it's usually pretty obvious that it's puking oil on the exhaust side, especially if you remove the turbine housing. There will normally be TONS of nasty, stank oil all up in there.

Next issue is to figure out if the turbo is bad, or if the oil plumbing is causing the turbo to barf oil on the exhaust side.

I'm assuming you've got your PCV system all taken care of?

ill check for that nasty stank oil when i get a chance :-) LOL

yup, well before the event the turbo shaft play was nothing to worry about (and had no front to back play), but its another thing i will recheck when i get into it.

yeah, that is all off on my track car, i have the 'crispy' 2 vent system with a catch can, no oil can get into the intake from that way anymore.
