The previous owner of my car told me to get NGK BUR9EQP plugs all around, however when looking in the manual I see a difference between leading and trailing (9's used for trailing, and a few lower #'s for leading). I imagine the 9's are to lower chances of detonation, but I just wanted to get some input before I plug these babies in. I don't care about increased performance, since this car already screams. I just want to know if I'm going to screw something up

 

9's all around is fine. However, if you are are still pretty close to stock, I would recommend sticking with the stock setup of 7's and 9's.

For those interested, I got the plugs from RockAuto.com. Had to buy 10 at a time, but it came out to less than $7/plug...sure beat blowing $13/plug at my dealer.

 

those ngk plugs only cost about 6 dollars at your local advance auto parts store

 

I checked all my local parts stores, and this was the best deal I could get by far. I guess it would help if I didn't live in the sticks, but it worked out

I always ran BUR9EQPs for both leading and trailing. Al's Auto Parts in Ravensdale (near Trev's dad's house) used to have them for (no ****) $4.25 ea. Al's has since been bought out by Schuck's (Kragen, Checker), and the price has gone up to $11.99 it seems.

^^ That's the place I got them. I didn't mind getting the plugs in boxes of 10 since I go through a set every 1500 miles. Should last me through the summer I would think.

That's frocking ridiculous. I know lots of guys with single turbos making over 400 rwhp that don't change plugs like that...

And yes, all 9s works just fine for a lightly modded car. I noticed absolutely zero negative attributes to changing to 9s all around.

 

I recently chnged my plugs after 10k mi. They seemed to be similar to pics of plugs people posted here. Leading is 1/2 light tan 1/2 darker (lean one side, richer the other. The trailing seemed to be a darker brown to black, rich. Kind of crusty. The car seemed to run fine

 

I will be changing them this weekend weather permitting so I'll be sure to take some photos and let you guys decide what's going on.

Believe me, I'd love to have them last longer than 1500 miles!

 

I got about 3K miles out of my plugs before I had some ignition issues above 16psi. Every 1500 miles with an hks twin power sounds funny though man. Something is up if you are running less than 16 psi on the stock twins. My best guess is tuning.

 

The car I purchased was owned by KZ1 (Philip) here on the forum. He took superb care of the car and made sure all the mods were done right. I have the utmost respect for his abilities and knowledge of the car. He had the car tuned by KD Rotary I believe, so things should be chipper in that department.

I did ask Philip why the plugs were eaten so fast, and he wasn't quite sure himself. He thought it was the HKS Twin Power mod too.

I don't think I'm above 15psi on the stock twins, although who knows since it's been awhile since I've been in the car.

As I mentioned above I'll get some pics this weekend for you guys to take a gander at. I got another package from Corksport in the mail today so I don't care if it's snowing outside I'm getting under the hood!

 

Okay, sorry to dredge this thread back up but a few of you wanted to see pictures of the spark plugs. I was able to pull them yesterday because the weather was finally nice, so I took some pics...

These plugs were changed just a tad over 1500 miles from the last time they were done. It's all been replaced with new BUR9EQP's. I hope I didn't screw myself over my running the two 7's instead of 9's like I was supposed to, but the car still pulls strong and runs smooth (if not a little smoother).

Let me know what you guys think...sorry I couldn't get any closer but my camera wasn't focusing too well, probably because of the lighting available.

 

i think the silver bullet website did some research on p's vs non p's and there wasnt much of a difference

 

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but Rock Auto has them cheaper than most places, and I know Rock Auto from my experience is reliable. $8.42 a pop, from $6.81 in 2005 to $8.42 in 2026. Not too bad.
