Building my own J Spec 13B with 280 Hp

I have read that the J-spec 13B gets 280 Hp because it has upgraded turbos, a freer exhaust and a 16 bit ECU. If I were to install a downpipe, a Power FC would that get me a reliable 280 Hp, or would I need to also upgrade the turbos??

A downpipe will improve reliability in any case.

If you're looking for reliable power, I'd say stay away from stock parts.

BNR stage 2's as found on their website and rx7store.net are more than capable of producing the 10psi the stockers (even '99 spec) produce, in either non-seq or seq form. They'd barely have gotten started then, so minimal load on them=longer life.

Not to mention they're cheaper than importing turbos from japan. You can easliy make 280hp with Power FC, downpipe, and stage 2's. And you have the option of going towards MUCH bigger number if you add fuel and open up the intake and exhaust even more. (like 350+ at the wheels)

that's my .02
