A BTDT t for those considering clutch replacement
A BTDT t for those considering clutch replacement
I know there's writeups and what not, but I wanted to share my expierences, with lack of a lift and using mainly handtools, some gimmes and some alterations to the "write up" suggestions...
Removal is pretty straight forward, don't forget to disassemble your center console, I had a buddy whom didn't and tore up some things when it dropped out
Even after you drain the transmission, at removal some will still spill from the tail
I don't think the throw out bearing release from the collar/snapring has been documented very well, keep the collar flush with the plate fingers and pull the tob with a 2nd screwdriver towards the transmission, it would instantly unlock
The wet toilet paper + 3/8" extention work well for pilot bearing removal, however put a pilot bearing seal on your laundry list at replacement
You may not agree, but I use an impact to remove & replace the flywheel nut, adhering thread locker at reinstall
Take a moment to check the free play in your input shaft when it's off and inspect the clutch fork for damage/cracking
When you go to line the tranny back up, just unbolt the pressure plate and it slips right in, I had to redo mine because it went in hard even after jacking the engine up, carefully aligning the clutch with the tool etc etc, still managed to bork the pilot bearing, just do this to be safe
use 3/8" hose draped up the engine bay with a funnel and the bolt just above the drain plug to fill it with oil, it's ~2.5ish quarts, I just pour in until a tiny bit spills out
i dunno what i may be forgetting, but having done it twice that's what stands out
