Unhappy Broken wire mystery, what's it for?

Well, i'm trying to diagnose why my stock temp gauge won't work and the stupid buzzer/light won't turn off. The water level sensor is brand new. There is no o-ring but there wasn't one on the original either. I ordered what the parts catalog said was a gasket but I don't think that's the problem. I started to trace the thermosensor wire. The connector is pluged in good. Ok, so wehre that wires meets in to the harness, on passenger side of rats nest, between relay closest to bumper and next one in there is a black wire with a red stripe but no t connected to anything. I would imagine a red stripe is power and white is ground unless it works like shouse electricity. Does anyone know what this wire is for? Is it a ground for the thermosensor? I haven't received my dig cam yet, so no pics.

Did you check the single black spade connector down by the AC pump?

the beige female spade connector is black with a red stripe. Maybe it's supposed to connect to that one? The black spade connector is brown with a white stripe.

The coolant sensor connects to the connector with the single Black with a Red stripe wire.

Thasnks for the help. I haven't turned the car back on yet but it looks like I pluged the P/S in to the plug meant for the thermosensor, which explains why I had extra plugs.
