Broken Rear iron stud

When I was putting new turbos on my car the stud that keeps the turbos to the rear iron in place broke off, is there any way to replace this? or do I need a new iron?

Its the rear iron, two studs come out to hold the oil line in place one of them broke

You don't need a new iron, but you might need to lift the engine to drill it out. I'm not sure if you'll have enough room with the engine installed. Once you get it out, you can either use another stud or just use a bolt.

Alright cool, hopefully there is enough room, I was having a bad time putting the turbos in myself then the stud breaks made it worse

If you are planning on using an extractor go ahead and spray some Kroil or another really good penetrating oil and let it start sitting. You may be able to find a really short drill. Take your time getting it out. It would be a shame to have to pull the engine and take it to a machine shop to get it out and put in a helicoil. I've had to do that on a jet ski, I would hate to do it with a car.

It only broke the tip off, so if I can pull the oil line off there's still a piece of stud left I can twist off i hope

Just did this on a friend's FD yesterday, I was all set up for a battle with that stud and it unscrewed with my fingers . Got HELLA lucky.

If there's a decent amount of stud sticking out (like 1/4" or so) you can use a stud extractor on it -



I have a kit like that and it's frickin' MAGIC. There are 3 rollers in each cylinder that grab the stud, makes it super easy to remove and install studs. To get enough room to use that you'll need to unbolt the tranny and move it back a half inch or so. Might also be worth trying vice grips on it. Those studs aren't in there super hardcore. Definitely hit it with some penetrating oil and let it soak.

Just take your time and you'll be fine.

Got it out but now I hit another problem the main oil line that connects to the turbos broke is this a hard replacement? The main oil line from the block that connects the turbos
