Broken door: HELP

i just took off my broken door handle on the driver side, and installed the new unit. have connected the exposed rods correctly, as they were connected to the old handle.

problem: i can open the door from the inside as always, but the exterior latch (handle) doesn't engage anything when i pull up on it.

it's like the rods should be connected to something down inside the door. did i pull something loose (off) when i removed the old handle? i gave it hell...

HELP- I am so tired of opening the door from the passenger side!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS!

I have the same problem but am too cheap to fix it.

I took it apart one day to see what exactly what was wrong but I couldn't tell what was broken.

My latch is the same way, doesn't engage anything and just flops up and down.

I'll fix it when my girlfriend finally lays the smackdown.

I just did this a few weeks ago. The door handle broke on my sons FD. There are two actuating rods, one works the lock the other the door latch. They are held in place by brittle plastic latches at the door handle. Sounds like you need to pull the door panel off because yours came unhooked inside the door panel. I would try that. You can download diagrams at www.iluvmyrx7.com . Let us know how it goes.

I need to check with Ray at Malloy and see if I can get just a door handle. The rest of the mechanism is fine. It would be nice to have a spare.

Can you operate the rod manually and open the door. I would try that. That should tell you if the problem is in the door handle or inside the door.

I installed door poppers after mine broke. I have found that you have to buy the heavy duty pull sels. You can also use alt. outputs to trigger the relays.

Well it makes me feel alittle better (not really) to see that i am not the only one hopping into the passenger seat and then walking around my car evrytime i am away from it to long to leave the window down.
hey SBI what do you mean door poppers? Like, push a button on your security remote and the doors pop open......and go shusshhh?

That was the same thing mine was doing before it broke. My passenger side handle quit working so I took the door panel off and put some wire ties through the hole in the rod and it has worked ever since.
