GA Brilliant Black w/ Red Interior

Recently I contacted Mazda HQ and they were able to find a "window sticker" of my car with all the options that it originally came with. Now, when I bought the car, it had a semi-complete tan interior and I just assumed that was what the car came as. This was further reinforced in my mind as it seems like every Brilliant Black Touring that I've seen came with tan interiors. But according to the document I received, my car was originally spec'd with the red interior. The only touring models I've seen with the red are the SSM's and the only BB cars I've seen with the red have been R1's.

So now I'm trying to figure out
1. If this is a really rare spec
2. Is there anywhere else I should check to make sure this is correct (considering the other information it has, I really doubt this document is incorrect)
3. If it's worth trying to find a complete 1993 red interior as I've already sourced all the tan pieces from a low mile car.

I've only ever seen the red interior twice in-person before (pulled from a BB R1 and in a SSM Touring) so I don't really have any strong opinions, but I would like to put the car back to its original spec (why I spent so much time, money, and effort sourcing a nice tan interior).

Any opinions, knowledge, or advice would be appreciated as this now feels like a major decision to make with my build.

I don’t know if the information you’ve been given is correct, but I think you should do it either way. I’d like to see a BB FD with red interior. I wouldn’t do the original red interior design though. The red plastics look terrible to me. I’d just do red front and rear seats. The aged red leather looks so classy. You’d probably wanna go OEM spec if you were to do it. Something to consider. There are actually seats for sale on eBay right now. I found a pic that may inspire you to get creative. Best of luck

Black on red is a great color combination. And I personally was inspired by that photograph….if you go that route definitely stay with all and only OEM colors. Especially on the panels.

BMWs come with black on red interior and I love the look. I've never seen this combo either, and i too assumed only the silver/red combo existed. I think if you can, you should. Would definitely be unique and look really sweet.

Yep, that was an option. Red interiors in general are SUPER uncommon, I don't know if I've ever seen one in person.

Black and red is extra sharp for sure.

Yep. An old friend of mine had one back around 2000 time frame. 93 BB touring with red interior. Had the bose system and all. I remember the glovebox droop.

Mine is BB on tan, but I'm a fan of the BB on red as well. BB on red is quite rare, but it won't be on an R1, it'll be a touring model, that R1 might've got your original red interior

I almost imported this one from Canada 4 years ago, 40k mile with pristine red interior... probably should of, price was so right but the seller was a PITA to work with lol.

Trying to find a full red interior in good condition is going to cost quite a bit right now, or event impossible, so you might be better off just stick with the tan you have, even good tan interior are hard to find too...

One of the local guys in my area has what was once a BB/red touring. Unfortunately for him, the previous owner painted it Nardo gray and put an ls1 in it... so the only identifier of its original configuration is the interior color and the paint code on the door jamb. Told me he'd like to revert it to how it was previously someday.

Guess I'm gonna have to find someone who wants to trade a full '93 red interior for a full tan interior then. Wish I knew this before I spent all the time and money sourcing a full tan interior lol
