Breaking in on a long trip ! Please read very important question.

Ok so I am picking up a 94 FD. Recently the rear rotor came up with 40psi on rear rotor but it had a year warranty and is being replaced. The reman had 6k on it. So anyways the guy is replacing the engine as we speak but my question is he is driving it to me now b/c I have no time to take off work. Anyways the engine will be a brand new from mazda (these people are certified rotary techs) reman . The trip is about 400 miles and the fact is I dunno if this guy will break it in correctly or vary the rpm's on the trip down here. Are these miles critical to the break in process. Cause for all I know he can boost it or run past 5k or run a solid 6k rpm . So I need to know if I should even buy it b/c of this situation. Also if you missed it the motor is going to be BRAND NEW REMAN.

Don't worry about it. 400 mile trip is a fine break-in.

Woo woo 60 Views and 1 post. Thanks turbojeff I heard you were a very knowledgable rotary person. So even if he drives it like **** to me my part of the break in will be more of importance ?

I would not have him deliver it.

I also had a long drive home when I got my engine installed. 120 miles to be exact. My builder advised me to vary in speed per 5 mile increments. 50, 55,60,65,75 then get off the freeway and take the streets (when possible) for a little bit. Just to be on the safe side.

Edit- Oh yeah he also told me not to go past 4000k rpms and 5 psi for the first 1000 miles. Can you trust a tech not to do that for 400 miles?

Story time:
A few years back my GF's friend had bought a brand new car. She didn't even have 100 miles on it when she called my GF to see if she wanted to go to Las Vegas. (it's about a 6 hr trip). The car took a dump once they got to there. When she took it to the nearest dealership they told her that she needed to at least break the car in for the first 500 miles and that's why the car broke down.

If you're that worried, for your peace of mind, why don't you pick up the car and drive it home yourself when you have the time?

My time wont open up for another month. And hes gonna have control of the break in if that happens b/c its gonna have to come out of the dealership and hes probably gonna drive it.

I'm not sure I would be buying a car from someone you had such little trust in.

Have you considered getting an auto transport company to ship the car to you then? Driving the car will be minimal, they just load the car onto a trailer.

I know too many people who work at dealerships. Everytime they take a car out for a test drive, they go wide out throttle. It doesnt matter what kind of car it is or how many miles it has on it. It doesnt even matter if they move it from the parking lot to the garage.

Well if the guy driving it was the one who replaced the engine, you'd think he would know what he was doing breaking it in ect.
