Post it up in the Good Guy/Bad Guy section - sorry to hear about this - I know what it's like to be ripped off and not have someone stand behind their work when they screw it up.

I wonder how many failures over the years have been blamed on the "unrealiable and fragile rotary" that are actually due to supposedly knowledgeable technicians working on them.

My car is at Gotham right now. Don did a terrible job of porting the motor, which is ironic considering he used to be famous for his porting work.

The irons were overported and the ports seemed very rough along the edges. One of the side seals on my rear rotor was scraped away (a ton of shavings were found in my wastegate) and the seal completely snapped in half.

Don has avoided all of my calls after the incident and I haven't seen him since he built my motor. I've left him voicemails on his home number and he hasn't returned any calls, and has since closed down the shop.

Basically, Don fucked me. I've been a very loyal customer of his for 3+ years and I always had a great working relationship with him, but he really screwed me over bad this time.

I'm curious. Does this guy offer any sort of warranty on his rebuilds? Do you have a receipt showing a warranty period of 90 days, or 6 months, or whatever? That will be crucial if you have to take him to court.

I'm really sorry to hear what happened. Same thing happened to me on a Mazda reman engine. Took the car to lunch, came back and did exactly what you described. Limped home as I thought it was a plug or injector. Then did a compression check and realized I was fucked.
Sorry to hear about your motor. Hope everything turns out well in the end

I know I'll get flamed for it, but this is why people go LS1s. To easy to get screwed on the rotary and V8s always seem to run...

yep,
I like rotaries a lot, but honestly,
these things are so damn tempermental, and you hear so many horror stories that it's not even like they're horror stories anymore. It's more like this is just the way rotaries are. They're not as stout as piston engines..

Personally, I don't think it's realistic to mess around with highly modded rotaries if you can't build them yourself.

It's really not THAT hard to build motors. I understand people don't have all the time in the world for this stuff, but if you can spend a few weekends learning this, then a few more weekends doing the work; then you're probably much better off.

Get yourself a mazda service manual, read up on how to rebuild these things, and go to town on your own!

**** trusting shady shops..
and **** dropping 5grand or whatever on a rebuild without any warranty!!
FUUUCK that ****.

Sure, send it over! You'll have to wait about two months though

Sorry to hear about your car.Im in kinda similar trouble here.I imported a 95 FD,with 116,000 on the clock and was assured there were plenty of miles left on it.

Had it two weeks and it blew. Now Im in the sticky position of scraping the money together to pay for the re-build,luckily there is a very trusted man living near me who will do the re-build for me,Eddie Doyle,he was featured in japanese performance a couple of months back, and he gives a full warranty on all re-builds.

Not much use to you, with me being in ireland, but what Im getting at is if deciding who to use for your re-build,always go with the professional who offers warranty.

If this guy offered you a warranty and isnt standing over it,I would shaft him,and take him to court.Anyway just by posting this you have hopefully steered people away from another shoddy so-called expert.

Hope you get this sorted.
