Question brake clunk

while medium to heavy pressure at speeds under 15mph there is a clunk in the front brakes. at higher speeds and/or light pedal pressure it's fine. i don't think any bolts on the caliper are lose, the pads are fine, and the rotors sit flush against the hub. i'm stumped. any info will help thanks !

This happens to me to!

When i was at the garage getting my mechanic to change my pads he took out some metal shims that go behind the pads and told me their was no need for them. A day later i was getting this horrible sound from the front brakes, so back to the garage and he had thrown the shims out and procceed to tell me they were called sliders. They are their to keep the pads in place and to stop the pads sliding around!

Not sure if this is right, but i'll make sure not to go back to that garage again!

Are you sure the problems are your brakes? Sometimes the front upper 'A' arm bushings will develope some slight "front to back" movement, which showed on my 93 up as a "clunk" sound. As I recall, it was really noticiable during slow speed braking, like when I'd pull into my garage and stop. Just a thought.
Here's a link that describes what I'm talking about and the fix, which worked well for me. About 1/3 down under a post by FSBOREGIS.
