Question Bracket on center iron near spark plugs... what is it for?

I have often scraped my hands against this bracket when changing spark plugs. Does anyone know what is supposed to do?

Thanks,

It holds the wire from the oil level sensor. There should be a plastic clip in the side facing the front.

Thanks for the info.

I'll have to check and see if my oil level sensor wire still has the plastic clip on it, if not I think I'll just ditch the bracket.
